Our council stop collecting garden waste in December and don’t start again until March. Isn’t it strange how it varies in the same county? The marmalade looks so pretty and summery. I’m sure lucky recipients will be delighted.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)8

I’ve just seen this on social media and I thought of Soot straightaway 😆

Lol, I saw that poster on social media too & also thought of our big black furry eating machine. I am confident he isn't going into people's houses like 6 dinner Sid though. He only goes as far as next door's garden & their cat doesn't have a cat flap. They would also be very unlikely to let him in due to our previous cat "making himself too comfortable" in their house on several occasions!
@EssexHebridean - Yes, I was thinking climate change too, re the Seville oranges. This definitely started off as a February job at Foxgloves Manor.
@themadvix - I can only knit the sock pattern I've committed to memory when watching anything exciting on TV, especially 'Slow Horses', where I don't want to miss any little skanky thing that might be going on.
@Sun_Addict - Yes, it's a different system here. Our garden waste wheelie is emptied every month - it is emptied once a month in December, January & I think February, then it changes to every fortnight for the rest of the year.

Hello Friday Frugalistas,
Just a quick one from me today. I've been quite busy this morning. Budget-friendly bits as follows:
*Changed bed linen & will launder it when I have got just a couple more light-coloured things for a full load.
*Did my weekly big clean. Minimal products, washable cloths, etc. Tedious but I like a clean house for the weekend.
*Entered a competition.
*Did a survey - or rather earned a miniscule amount of points for being screened out of a survey.
*Rounded up some scrap card (loo roll tubes, eggboxes, etc) & added to our compost caddy. The compost tends to be a bit on the wet side this time of year so we find it's well worth getting some drier materials on there.
*Wrote list for tomorrow's planned garden centre mission.
*Jotted down an online recipe for red lentil humous, which I will try when I've got some tahini. Noticed this morning that we have a good stock of red lentils in the pantry atm so felt it called for a new recipe & something a bit different for making Mr F's packed lunches will be welcome.
*Progress shawl-knitting. I got quite a lot done yesterday afternoon. I can concentrate on this complicated pattern when listening to something but not while watching TV, so I think I will sit in the kitchen armchair where I can listen to my audiobook. I am counting both traditional books & audiobooks in my challenge to read 100 books in 2025, as long as they're not abridged. This shouldn't be a problem as I really dislike abridged versions so take care to avoid them.
Right, I shall sign off for today & go & make some lunch. Doubtless I will need to dispense cat lunch first (they have most of their daily biscuit quota for their lunch) or I shan't get any peace. I trod on poor Soot last night. He was very excited about the grocery shopping arriving home with Mr F & unbeknownst to me, got right under my feet. I was wearing some very chunky boots & he absolutely screeched & attacked the back of my shin (drew blood in 3 places!) with the paws I hadn't trodden on. He was so upset & was wary about talking to me for a little while, though cheered up when given his dinner. He was limping on a back paw for a while & I felt terrible about it - a complete accident - but thankfully he was walking normally by bedtime & also this morning.
Today is fairly whizzing by, Have a good one,

You've been busy and we're only half way through the day. enjoy your book. I think I will keep track of how many I read this year. On 2 so far, with another one almost complete. I'll edit my signature to keep track. Maybe also how many jigsaw puzzles I do. Trying to have more "me time" this year.Making the debt go down and savings go up

@Makingabobor2 - I've just updated my signature & have also included numbers of books read. I read a lot, but really have no idea how many books I get through in a year, so it will be interesting to find out. It's already starting to impact my online time positively.
