Glad you had a safe and happy trip over Xmas and all is well.
Dont get me started on the price of coffee... I might pop to my local wait*** and look tomorrowDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Just running through the whole of Up The Junction in my head. Some of the Squeeze songs tell such great stories. When we saw Squeeze live a couple of years ago they accidentally repeated a verse of Labelled With Love which threw me completely off kilter.7

In the early hours this morning in that phase between sleep and wakefulness, my brain for some unknown reason was trying to remember who did the song I'm Into Something Good.
I won't say the answer in case anyone else who knows it but hasn't thought about it in years wants to drive themselves mad for a bit!

Thank you I do know but that will be an ear worm for me all day. PennysIntoPounds said:In the early hours this morning in that phase between sleep and wakefulness, my brain for some unknown reason was trying to remember who did the song I'm Into Something Good.

Ah yes, the ever-extending rubber fowl. Over here, ours did Roast for 7, two turkey and ham pies in the freezer (for two), one turkey and sweetcorn pie eaten over two days, one pie for 6 in the freezer, and we have had some cold with salad and pickles, in sandwiches, with breakfast eggs and there is some sliced in the freezer for future sandwiches (with the gammon that was left). Oh and eight portions of soup I intend freezing if I can make spaceSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Turkey this year was an almost disaster here. It defrosted much quicker than usual & with zero room in the fridge I cooked it the night before. Same weight, same oven, same cooking time & yet much better cooked. As in it would not have needed microwaving to finish off like previous years. It was carved, fridged or freezered before bedtime & I am doing the same next year.

And here we are on New Year's Eve again. How swiftly the year has passed into this liminal space between old & new, past & future, regrets & promise.
Thank-you for all your comments, contributions, ideas & MSE stories over the past year. You all know I sometimes think my presence here should be 'done', as we have achieved debt-free, but in honesty, it does help keep up the good work where both staying debt-free & building savings are concerned.
Rubber-turkey endeavours took me later into today than intended because we decided on a lakeside walk this morning to fit in a bit of fresh air before the bad weather arrives. I finished it off this afternoon & can report that our turkey plus my efforts on the s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g front has provided the following:
*4 portions of Christmas roast dinner when our friends came over on 29th.
*2 portions cold turkey with jacket wedges, salad & assorted leftovers
*1 box of leftover turkey, gravy & veg for Mr F's jacket potato topping tomorrow night.
*2 portions turkey breast slices & gravy frozen for a 'free' Sunday dinner at some point.
*4 portions of turkey bhuna (freezer)
*7 portions of turkey chilli (freezer)
*6 portions of turkey & vegetable soup (freezer)
*3 large containers of turkey stock (freezer)
And now I'm going to try & put a few pieces into my beautiful new jigsaw. I treated myself to it a few weeks ago as I quite like to have one on the go at New Year. It's a lovely one but I think it's going to be tricky, as I already seem to have bogged up the edge pieces. A relaxing thing to do over the festive period though.
Have a lovely evening, everyone. Am just going to set up a litter tray in case of fireworks later as neither Soot or Ash are keen on them.
