Great decluttering progress Foxgloves! Is there a reason you don't use Freegle/Freecycle/Olio to give away items? Just thinking you'd reach a bigger audience than people passing your house. Once a collection has been arranged the item can be left outside at the right time for the person, if you don't want to have to interact with them.Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

@themadvix - Nothing except my perception that it would be a faff, tbh. I am on a village FB group so could draw attention to any free stuff on there. We did once advertise some free doors. Oh my life, to say that the palaver which ensued was straight from the Laurel & Hardy playbook would be an understatement! We still laugh about it.

Makes sense about the FB group. I agree it can be a faff, but it isn't always. At least you can laugh about the L&H-ness of it 😊Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

I find with freecycle and the like that if I tell the person when they can collect they are more likely to do so. If I ask when they’d like to popover I’m not top of their priority list but collect between 1/1.30pm
or I move to the next person normally has the item gone pretty sharpish. (Years of experience have taught me that I’m in charge of the stuff I give away) 😁9 -

@BlueJ94,
Hi, Re veg growing, it's too early at the moment. The 1st seeds I sow will be chillies on the last day of January, but they will be sown indoors in a heated propagator. Most of my sowing is done in Feb & March with squashes, courgettes & beans in April.
If you don't have one already, have a look out for a veg growing book in charity shop or the library, as these should contain all the info you need on what to sow when.

I bought a carpet cleaning machine too. It is huge to store and too heavy for me to move around and use. It did work ok, but I found I wasn't using it. I gave it to my daughter, who does use it, being considerably younger and stronger, and has 2 children, a puppy and a coloured lounge carpet
I also leave smaller unwanted things outside on the front wall with a 'help yourself' sign for people to just take. I have rehomed childrens books, toys and clothing, household goods and spare plants among other things. I do use local FB groups for large things that won't go on the wall, but often get faffing. I have given up on freec*cle due to constant messing around and not turning up to collect. It might work well for others but that is my local experience.4 -
Grim greetings from Foxgloves Manor this morning as roofing costs have just risen by £3500.
We did wonder if other significant problems would be uncovered & yes they have - most of them as a result of the previous occupant having added that execrable spray-on insulation 24 years ago.
Thank goodness for our Emergency Fund is all I can say.
Am getting on with tasks to try & take my mind off it but it's not working very well yet.
