Makingmehappy, congratulations on day 1. That's great news you got through it. Glad my post helped. Hope it didn't depress everyone else on here too much.
Good luck with the cravings. Some things I sometimes found useful but I am no good example here so please take it in the spirit of ideas designed to help...
Food treats and sugary drinks - don't get hungry or thirsty. I was addicted to B0ttle Green Ginger & Lemongrass at one point although there is a debate to be had about replacing one bad habit with another I took the whatever gets you through approach. The acronym HALT was helpful to me - Hungry Angry (although I do sad more) Lonely Tired. I went to the cinema to take my mind off it and going for a swim or a bath assuming I was strong enough to take a soft drink in. I also used to stick gold stars on a paper calendar and tell myself how good it would feel the next morning when I did that. Putting the booze money in a pot every day to show yourself the money and tax saved works for lots of people - Rob has been a great example of that on here. Plus the perennial favourite of go to bed early! Good luck.7 -
Hi all, as @Wanna_Bee_Free reminds me, the £5-a-day has built up to £3,300+. Money I would otherwise have glugged!
It's 14/27 here and I've got a date later. OK it's at the Magistrate's court but it still counts (not really!).Now a gainfully employed bassist again - WooHoo!8 -
10/26 for me today please.
Rob, don't fall for the magistrate... I had to go up into the witness box decades ago in an application for a license - I tripped on the step and fell. I hadn't been drinking, really I hadn't.
Years later at a training session on speaking in public, the trainer tried that old chestnut "whatever your fears are, they won't happen". I said "oh yes they will" and relayed that story. My worst fears are still that I'll trip up when approaching a podium. I can trip up over nothing, and do. Strangely, never when I've been drinking. What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?6 -

9/10 AFDs please @cathybird
Glad to hear you're OK @sukeyboo. 😊
Thanks for the very useful tips @Wanna_Bee_Free. Even now I find it easier to have a distraction if I need an AF day at weekends. I'm fine if I have to drive somewhere or go to the theatre or cinema. At home it's much harder until after dinner. I'm fine with weekdays though. 🤔8 -
