Thanks @Farway , I'm still getting the hang of it. I realised I needed to do something different when my cosmos leaped up!

Silly question but how do you define 'germinated'? When you can see a little bit of green poking through? a stalk and a leaf? a cm high? Also, do you react when you have one or wait for more.
I go by if it's above the soil surface, stalk and maybe seed leaves unfurling
The sooner they are experiencing "normal" conditions, the better the long term future

If only one then wait a bit, but if the one is getting leggy grab the bird in the hand and assume the rest are goners until proven wrong

Depending on the plant I personally would just remove the lid once the were all up (within reason!) rather than just assume the 1 or 2 have germinated and not the rest. I’ve just had an aubergine show it’s little green loop and the others are about 3 weeks in despite all being started at the same time

Had v. swift germination of the basil and the bush basil is also germinating.  The other herbs - no sign yet, but they were covered with compost.
Went looking for Rocket seed in my aged collection of seed packets and couldn't find any!!!!!  I'll see if L1dl has any tomorrow.  Sowed lettuce; celeriac; leeks and dill.
I need to !!!!!! out the onion seedlings.

Three pepper seeds have germinated in one pot and there are signs of little pale bobbles in the other (I do hope these are seeds germinating and not mildew on the surface!) I am hoping for at least 6 plants so I can gift three and keep three.

Oh yes, my greenhouse became the warm workspace of choice for DH yesterday afternoon as he was making up new brood frames for our bee hives. Yet another winter job that did not get done because of his repeated eye surgeries. The sheltered table outside the back door (under cover but open to the wind) was too cold and his feet were stiff and cold when I called him in for soup and warm HM bread.

  • In a couple of the trays in my proprogater I've got no seed germination yet but some little grey mushroomy things and some sort of yellow blobs.

Is this because the soil was too wet?
Does the soil need replacing in these pods?

I don't know (you do not say which seeds you have in there) but definitely do not replace the soil, and if they look really wet, lift the cloche bit off for the middle part of the day so the air helps the surface to dry a bit, but don't forget to put it back when the temperature is dropping, or if it is going to rain - and don't worry if the cloche bit gets covered in condensation. It is labour-free watering as the humidity is enough for seeds to germinate

  • Thanks, that is what I have been doing to try and get some more air into the surface to try.

Different seeds in different sections that are impacted.

Drew a blank at L1dl for rocket seed, (seed carousel was looking very sparse), nothing in Aldi, so went to M0rris0ns where they had 3 for 2 on Fotherg1lls - bit pricey, but then driving to nearest W1lko would have prob. been as expensive in fuel.

Have pr1cked out the onion seedlings and basil - thinking about the snapdragon seedlings.  Potted tomatoes looking good; chillies/peppers sulking a bit, aubergines looking okay. Put some parsnip seed onto wet paper towel to check germination, sowed asparagus.

Weather temps. picking up after Monday am cold snap; I'm hoping to do some decent spells outdoors over the next few days if the rain holds off.

Ordered asparagus crowns and the last few seeds still wanted (parsnip and endive). Finally feeling better, just need the weather to improve. So unvelievably wet.
