Here is our all new, New Year, fresh start, Make an Extra £10 a Day challenge!

For anyone looking for a new challenge to get their money looking a little healthier, jump onboard to see what you can achieve! The purpose of this challenge is to try and make an extra £10 a day on top of your normal income to help things along, eg. paying off debt, making savings, paying for holidays, overpaying mortgages or even extra spending money. Every little helps, and we've seen participants reaping the rewards of giving themselves a target and using the group for inspiration and encouragement to get there.

The idea is that everyone posts how they are making extra money and these shared ideas help all of us to learn new ways to help cut debt or earn/save money. This isn't a competition to see who can make the most; everyone is on their own journey and doing a variety of different activities to raise extra funds, so please set your own target, do your own thing. If you feel £10 is too much, why not start at £5 (or less if you want)?  Or, if you're brave, join those who aim for £20 a day! (We saw a few occassions of topping £1000 last year!) Anything extra you make is great so set whatever target you think you can manage. It also doesn't have to be £10 each and every day - some days you make more and some days you make less, but aim to average £10 a day (or whatever your target is) extra by the end of the month.

This is the 185th month of the challenge which was started by Batgirl in September 2007. Here is a link to the original thread as I am sure some of you are interested to read where it all began. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/542835/make-10-a-day-extra-every-day-in-sept-challenge

Thanks to Batgirl for starting it and for everyone who has kept it going for over 15 years.

If you would like to join in, let us know by commenting in the thread with how much you are going to aim for. If you would like some ideas, or recommendations, or just check-in for a bit of encouragement, you'll find lots of friends within this group, and you are welcome to join in at any time.

Best wishes for 2023!

  • Thanks for the new thread. I'm going to go in at £10 a day for January please, I'll see how that goes but may need to lower it for February as I'm not too sure how I'm going to make the extra money.

I was a regular poster on this thread about 7 years ago. Back then I was debt free and by completing this challenge alone I funded a 2 week trip to Florida. I'm hoping I can have the same impact on my debt now.
Back then I did a lot of mystery shopping, my full time job gave me the flexibility to do that now my 9-5 job doesn't really give me the time to complete that so for the time being I'm going to be relying on surveys to make the money.
Total debt when my journey began in December 2022- £66,133.42
    Current debt May 2024- £40,064.57
    Repaid 39.42%

Hello and thanks for running this. I would like to join in for £15 a day please, being part of this thread keeps me motivated and with everything I have to declutter and sell, it’s good to aim high. I’ve managed £573 in December as we approach the end. With a gift, a refund and other stuff included this month, I know January will mean more effort needed.

Good luck all and for on-going inspiration as this gets going!
  • Thanks for the inspirational opening thread @CMD79 and welcome and lots of luck to all the newbies :)

I'd like to go for £16 per day this month please :)
