For those who don't know, I recently posted about maybe closing my BC forward as no credit limit increases but they offered a change of card to a rewards card, well I got an increase of my limit doubled recently through app application, and changed to the rewards, and I'm probably going to keep it, I still need a limit of approx £1500-2500 but as of now I have £800, it's still relativley low but for overseas use it will do for now. For anyone with the BC rewards, what is your current credit limit? how many increases have you had, I've heard BC are not too generous with limits.. (if you would like to share that information I would appreciate it)
I have a trip in June and I'm hoping to either get a second increase or apply for the Halifax Clarity as I hear the limits are more generously offered.

Thanks forum!

I think that their credit limits depend on various factors, but not on the type of the card.
I have an old Barclaycard Cashback with £3.75K  limit and another very old BC with £5.5K limit. One of the limits they increased quite a lot recently without me asking them.

Just getting an idea of limits, if there is a possibility of higher limit in the future, I heard BC was cutting so if people still have relativley high/average limits then I'll keep it as it could rise.
  • I have a reward credit card had for many many years it’s a 6.94% fixed for the life of the card hence even if I don’t use I will never get rid of it.

limit is only 1500 but I have turned off credit limit increases so don’t really know if they would increase, i have no balance at present but will insure the car in January and move to here as have a 0% offer to end December 2023 as that should work out cheaper than monthly payments.

  • Traditionally Barclaycard and MBNA have tended to offer higher limits, HOWEVER it's not about the card it's about you and your payment history, income, current debt, debt to available credit/income ratios. Just for the record my Rewards card is £22k.

Limit is decided by their internal lending scoring policy, which will include data from any other lenders. So if you have a high debt to income ratio. They are far less likely to increase you limit.

So you can not compare what you have to anyone else, without knowing their income/expenditure & exposure to debt.

My Barclaycard Rewards card has a 16.5k Limit, when i first got it it which was many moons ago it started off at 4.5k.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Yes Barclaycard have slashed limits during Covid and have been more cautious than in the past, but it is all relative to one profile.

Although they slashed mine, I could still probably pay of a luxury holiday with it and have limit to spare, but still I now have a much lower limit on it then I had in the past or that I Still have with Amex, Santander, HSBC or MBNA.

So my limit would not give you any indication of what you are likely to get but there is enough evidence reported that BC is no longer as generous as it used to be for many.
