Laura, the strap are beautiful. The stitching is all so even.  Hope you don't mind me asking but is the ribbon just decorative or does it serve another purpose eg to stop it from stretching. I ask because I crocheted a bag plus handles and the handles have all stretched. I'm going to unpick it, shorten the straps. Seeing your straps have made me think if I could somehow add ribbon or something to stop it from stretching again. Any advice well received.

I found a vintage crochet hook on eBay, from old stock. It comes with a metal cover to protect the fine hook, which also makes the handle longer. I have some vintage cotton hankies which could do with a simple crochet edging. I like the kitch embroidered flowers on them, but the hems are badly sewn.

Just updating my coupon use.  I bought 6 tops and a pair of walking boots, all 5 coupons each, so I am left with 14 for the rest of the year

1st try....still needs buttons, ribbons etc sewn on and woven through the gaps....I can fit my hands comfortably inside, so it should be ok...
I might make the next one slightly bigger.

Morning Girls

Just a quick heads up:  if I’m a bit quiet over the next few days, nothing is wrong.   We’re off to Miami early tomorrow morning, for just over two weeks.  We’ll be staying with a friend and heading up to Cape Canaveral, then into Georgia and points north for a bit of a road trip.  We’ll also walk a little of the Appalachian Way.

Biggest worry for the trip is what the hell do I pack to knit?  I have the socks that I’m currently working on, but I’ll need something for when that pair are finished.  Nothing larger or heavier than socks is feasible in a Florida summer.  (Last time, I ran out of projects and ended up making a pair of fingerless mitts from the leftover sock yarn that I had with me.)

Take two contrasting colours and small needles and knit a pair of Sanquhar gloves. You won’t rattle *those* off in no time at all!

I think the problem for me would be that they need so much concentration, I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the holiday! 

Perhaps there’s a middle ground. There’s a fabulous pattern on Ravelry for fingerless gloves with bass and treble clef on the back of each hand. My sister made me a pair, and then I made them for a choir friend. They’re a great Christmas gift for anyone musical.

@PollyWollyDoodle - I made one Sanquhar glove years and years ago in the first few years after learning to knit but I didn't understand about tension and the importance of knitting a test piece and so on and so forth, so I only followed the instructions blindly and it wouldn't go onto my square, squat mole' paw of a hand... 

But I do want to knit myself some - they are virtually windproof, very beautiful, and very hard-wearing. And once you get going, it doesn't demand that much concentration... 

I do need to knit new fingerless mitts, as I live in those half the year, and my own-design ones are wearing thin... knitted in 2017. So maybe I'll include some aspects of Sanqhar round the wrists. I do love the diapering on the palms of these and the speckle thumbs, but I could do the nice initialled wrists of the Sanqhar ones, perhaps... and maybe just the cream (it's a lovely rich caramel-cream, nice warm shade) with the two greens.

Have a wonderful time Pip. I'm sure you will have done your homework on what knitting implements your airline(s) allow - I did a long trip once where I could take bamboo needles most of the way but had to pack them for one leg of the journey, and then had to go through the biological checkpoint with them when we got to Australia (I have absolutely no doubt you will know about that aspect ).

In my mind's eye your outward journey sees you with dozens of remnants from your stash in your luggage, and you come back wearing them...

@Laura_Elsewhere, you are as always super-interesting as well as resourceful (perhaps Pip should tuck you into her luggage to keep her entertained?). How are the gums healing?
