Hi again 😊
Excise me appearing, disappearing and reappearing! I was just about getting the hang of navigating the boards and then they changed it - I have been looking (uselessly! 😂) for you for days ….@PipneyJane, @Cherryfudge thank you both for the cuppas and biscuit. Much appreciated 😊☕️
Not quite sure what to tell you about myself 😊 other than I work very intensively in a management job and need something as an ‘antidote’! In the spring and summer it’s my garden but in the autumn and winter I want to be more indoor creative. Something that indulges my love of colour, texture and gives me a sense of achievement. I know how to knit texture (cables etc - made a few jumpers for my father that way) but can’t knit colour (my brain boggles just thinking about it - I will master it some day though 😊). I can’t crochet though I would love to be able to. During being furloughed I taught myself c. half a dozen embroidery stitches from kits and videos and did a couple of projects then. I have a tendency to make my stitches waaaay *too* small so need to get more confident at laying down the thread as if it were the stroke of a pencil or brush, I think. I have all kinds of kits and art ‘stuff’ but need a better space to use them in …. That’s a whole other story …. 😉
@Laura_Elsewhere thank you so much for that really useful and comprehensive response. That is really helpful. I have always used hand-heat water rather than cold so I suspect that will make quite a difference in itself. 😊 I will aim to get it washed, blocked, dried and put away ready for C-mas before it gets grubby again.I will ask Mr KK if he will ‘model’ the blanket for me tomorrow - he’s too tired tonight to ask 😉

@KajiKita, I find the same - it still tells me I have 50+ notifications on my diary - but I'm right up to date. I can't find a way to cancel the ones I've seen. I know I'll only find something interesting there if it's tagged.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Good afternoon Ladies
< looks carefully around the Hall before settling down >
Are we the only ones here? I have an adventure to tell you about, but it’s a bit hush-hush. We spent a couple of nights in Cocoa Beach, on Cape Canaveral, near the < whisper > top secret NASA Kennedy Space Center (aka “KSC”). Saturday, we started the day watching the sunrise on the beach, then were given a tour of KSC - DH’s friend pulled some strings - and finished the day standing on the beach again watching a rocket launch! </ whisper >
Wow!
I can thoroughly recommend the tour of the space centre, if you’re ever in the area. Give yourself a full day. It takes in the Gemini program, the Apollo launches, the space shuttle and the start of the new era, where commercial companies launch near-Earth satellites from KSC, enabling NASA to focus their efforts - and money - on the Artemis program (to take humans back to the moon and beyond). We took a ride on a shuttle simulator, as well as one that pretended to take you to Mars. (The latter was a bit scary, throwing you around. Don’t do it if you get motion sick.). The shuttle simulator made you feel like you were really taking off.
We got lucky with the rocket launch. It’d been delayed for a couple of nights, because of the weather. Weirdest thing was the sound. No sonic boom but the rocket must have been well beyond the sound barrier because it got to us and then we heard the sound following it, like a cloak trails behind the wearer.
I have a spend to declare. Couldn’t go to NASA without buying a branded tee-shirt, so 4 coupons spent. That takes me to 49 spent for the year, so 17 remain. I also bought a water bottle an insulated travel mug and an insulated cup for the office. Can’t half tell that I grew up with the Space Program. One of my earliest memories is watching the first moon landing on television. (Also, I had Russell Morris singing “On the Wings of An Eagle” playing in my head the entire time we were at Kennedy Space Centre. If you don’t know it, it’s on the soundtrack from the movie, “The Dish”.)

It sounds like a wonderful adventure, Pip. *Whispers* The nearest I've been to anything like that is the National Space Centre... er... the one I'm not going to mention the location of but this side of the pond. That was very interesting but not on the scale of the real thing.
A t-shirt in American cotton? Could that have come via our friends at the American Airbase, and therefore be coupon-free?
I'm not a films person but I did enjoy The Dish. The bit where the moon rises...!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Oh, how amazing, Pip! You really did hit the jackpot with the launch. 😊
The only place I've been was Jodrell Bank, many years ago, and it was very strange hearing 'the sounds from space.' Like you, I grew up with the space race, so I'm very interested in how things have developed.2025 Fashion on the ration
