@PollyWollyDoodle, interesting article! Not sure if I missed it, but did they ask about laundering tea towels, etc?I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@PollyWollyDoodle I've just read the article on washing clothes, and it does make you think...
I'm in the clean underwear every day group, but I do wear tops for 3, 4 or more days unless they get dirty or sweaty. Skirts and trousers last much longer before washing. I don't wear tights between May and October so that helps, too, although I do have short socks for in my trainers and shoes, which get washed in the sink.
What do others do? I find this sort of thing fascinating!2025 Fashion on the ration

To be honest, I'm similar - clean knickers every day (or after a shower) but tops I will happily wear for a couple of days , trousers for up to a week unless they're stained, grubby or sweaty.
Can't see the point of washing something just cos I've worn it once2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

Glad to hear your procedure went ok Pip, and fingers crossed for the results. If I ever have to have an endoscopy again I would definitely ask for sedation.
I usually wear clothes several times unless they are actually dirty, sadly I am rubbish at remembering to wear an apron when cooking so quite often they are 'clean' but marked in other ways. I don't do a physical job so unless it's been very hot or I've been travelling or similar I don't think they need washing. I'm not sure I could make my jeans last a year though! And I believe it's true that wool doesn't smell, not going to try that though as it makes me itch.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Hi all,
@Laura_Elsewhere, good luck with the dentist, hugs
@PipneyJane glad you're ok and hoping for good results, hugs
Re washing clothes I am for clean knicks every day and socks if it's cold enough to wear them. As for t shirts they usually get 3 wears at least unless I have managed to get them dirty or I have been doing something very energetic. Trousers and shorts can easily last me a week or more unless I have spilt something on them. I don't wear jeans atm but when I did they would generally last a couple of weeks. Tea towels generally last a couple of days or maybe longer if I am not drying up but leaving things to drain but I do use them as oven mits as well so they sometimes get mucky then and get put in the wash. Towels generally last a week or longer based on the fact they are used to dry you when you are clean, as long as they are able to dry thoroughly between uses. Hand towels generally don't last more than about 3 days because for some reason they get grubby quicker even though they are used to dry clean hands
Take care everyone4 -
Thanks for the good wishes, all!
re laundry: I wear socks several times, airing them well, because wool has that ‘self-cleaning’ property. If I’ve walked a lot in one day then I might wash them after one wearing, but otherwise they get hung up to air and worn again. I never ever ever use detergent on my knitting, just the cold-water ‘rinse’ cycle with its 1400rpm spin. Jumpers and cardigans are washed once a year, if that- one which I hand-dyed the wool for, in contrasting stripes, was hand-washed once after knitting and now will never be washed to avoid fading the colours. They get aired, spot-cleaned, steam-pressed through a damp cloth if needs be.
I have a ‘frying top’ that I change into, after losing a couple of nice t-shirts to fat-splatters! It’s just an old faded long-sleeve top, but very practical. I’m rubbish at bothering to wear aprons but I keep an old, tatty, tea-towel hung by the sink and use that for wiping oily or floury hands, and it’s become a real clothes-saver.
The rest I wash when it needs it. Undies are usually single-wear although I do mostly wear shorts of the ‘french knickers’ variety with skirts so the knicks are actually not in as much contact with me as modern briefs-style ones are.
Swimming kit is rinsed but never washed.Bedlinen we change distinctly less often than most, fortnightly or even more- perhaps because we have the window wide open most of the year and a bit open in all but the bitterest winter, combined with no heating, we seem not to sweat much at night, even with hot flushes, although we really notice the difference when staying with family and sleeping in polycotton sheets or under a synthetic duvet!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Another coupon spend to report - as the bra I bought appears to be fine I have been back and bought another (wanted 2 more but they only had one in my size) so that is another 1.5 coupons spent.

Love to the two poorly ones! 3 teeth out - now that's serious! I hope it all goes well, Laura. (I've been told that I might have to have a tooth out too - it's obviously catching!)
Another for clean knickers every day, ditto socks. I have 1 pair of tights, a support pair for market stall days. However, I try and make T-shirts last anything up to a week. Jumpers can be worn for a month- 6 weeks. Jeans are sponged clean, turned inside out, the crotch area sprayed with vodka and hung out to air for several hours. They get washed maybe 1 - 2 times a year. At this time of year, I do tend to refresh summer blouses on the short wash. However, how often I've worn things depends on what it is. Vest tops can be several times, while the linen tops and trousers are washed every time its worn. I do make sure that the washing machine is full, though before I run it. I iron more in the summer than the winter - all that cotton and linen!
Really I should invest more in crinkle and seersucker clothing for the summer so I cut down on the ironing, but I have so much already, I can't justify buying it.Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.
