Hi all
@Laura_Elsewhere have you measured your inside leg for jeans? I only ask because I am 5'4" and have to get 31" inside leg. It might be worth measuring, apparently I have long legs for my height. I can't remember the last time I wore jeans but I seem to remember when I last bought some from a jeans shop you would have a choice of leg lengths and at 5'7" you are about average height. Even mands do 33" length these days, though I do understand about the high waist, nothing worse than jeans that don't reach your waist
Take care everyone
ETA I just looked it up and apparently the average height for women in the UK is 5'4.7" which is shorter than I thought, there must be a lot of tall women living near me2 -
I have the opposite problem. My mother saved the legs she cut off of my jeans and made a quilt for my brother. I'm 4'10" and even petites are too long. Sometimes even the the cropped type trousers are too long!2

@Laura_Elsewhere if you really like those jeans and they fit well, then do consider getting a second pair bought for you for your birthday/Christmas this year, before they go out of stock for good. Good, well-fitting jeans are hard to find.
The replacement puffer-coat arrived yesterday and fits well. I have made the decision, though, that next time I head into Central London, I will take the old one in to be fixed. (Probably not until mid-March, though.).
Did I mention that I was away for work this week? I’m back there for two days next week and then a different site in the south-west for 3 days the week after. Anyway, I got chatting to one of the girls in the office. (I admired her crocheted cushion cover.) Turns out she’s a crocheter and a spinner. She’s offered to teach me to spin! My task for today is to find the spindle and pencil roving stashed upstairs in the “wool cave” (aka the spare bedroom). I think I know where they are but, given that I can’t find the end of a ball of sock yarn in that room, in order to finish DH’s socks….
If I don’t emerge by tea time, send a search party, please. The sheep will have taken me prisoner.

PS: I’ve offered to teach her to knit."Be the type of woman that when you get out of bed in the morning, the devil says 'Oh crap. She's up.'
It ain’t what you do, it’s the way that you do it - that’s what gets results!

I'm wondering if the figures on average heights refer to the 1950s? At 5 ft 8, I was considered tall at school in the 1970s, but when I went to pick up OH, who worked in a secondary school, the girls towered over me!Sealed Pot Challenge no 035.

There are a LOT of women shorter than 5'4" - not just the ones who are petite but also a lot of elderly women who have lost height with age-related skeletal degeneration.
Young people are on average taller - in the UK that's down to the NHS and vaccination programmes coupled with good nutrition - the Dutch are the tallest-average nation in Europe, from memory, and that's thought to be partly genetic but partly due to a huge dairy intake, so potentially we may see a drop in stature averages in younger people with the rise in non-dairy diets in much younger people (unless they are really really really obsessive about getting all the magnesium, zinc, Vit-D and calcium from plant sources, and not restricting it by eg eating rhubarb which reduces uptake of calcium and so on - it's a very tricky balancing-act for an adult, far harder for sub-adults).
Review of the Long Tall Sally jeans after one day - worn them all day, walked 2.5 miles to the shops, very very comfortable, excellent fit all over, and they really do go from waist to ankles just like jeans always used to do! The "high-waisted" seems to mean they are at waist-level, and the 34" length I ordered seems to be about the length I remember jeans used to be on me... and I'm no mnre than 32" leg...2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

The jeans sound great @Laura_Elsewhere. I'll second PipneyJane and suggest a second pair and blow the coupon cost. If you love them you will get the use out of them.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hi all
@weenancyinAmerica, I have a friend who is 4'11" and she wears aged 12 clothes
@Laura_Elsewhere, definitely get a second pair
@PipneyJane, wow spinning, amazing serendipity, something I want to learn to do, good luck with it, maybe you can teach us
Take care everyone4 -
I'm 5'7 but my inside leg is only 29". I have a very long body and often find it difficult to get jeans and trousers to fit as my natural waist is higher than usual. This is why I want to learn to make trousers.
I once sat next to my 6'4" brother and realised that sitting down, we were almost on eye level. It's just that when he stands up he's got a lot more leg to unfold!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.4 -
@PollyWollyDoodle, I am similar - the same size as others when seated but shorter on standing! When my daughter was a baby, the baby grows that fitted lengthwise wouldn't do up on the body, and those that did up would be hanging off around the feet. In the end I asked the doctor if everything was all right. She looked at me thoughtfully, asked my height (just under 5'2") and explained that some people have longer bodies and shorter legs and therefore, sitting opposite her at 5'8", we seemed not too different but my legs are shorter, so when I stand up, I'm shorter then she is. Same applied to my baby daughter so the baby grows were just showing us that our proportions weren't standard.
When I go to look at jeans in the shops, I often see styles I like, but when held up against me, there's a good six inches trailing on the floor.
I'm used to it.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
