As being confused and unaware of uk bank holidays this post is not needed.
Think I’ve just lost the last of my marbles.
Or were your non payment texts about manual payments you attempted today.
Standing orders, thats why i was confused.
Which bank pays out standing orders on a bank holiday?0 -

Todays payment has not been sent, due to the Bank holiday. Even though it’s not a bank holiday today.
Got 2 texts informing of non payment.
It will be sent tomorrow, that’s what I was advised on the phone call.
Hope this info helps.Yes I received a text from Chase yesterday regarding a Standing Order due on the 26thYour payment to Santander 123 Lite hasn't been made.I made a manual payment. It doesn't really matter as it was for a DD from Santander which won't go until the next working day but it would have been nice if the message said it would be sent later rather than leaving me guessing (I'll have to move it back when it does go tomorrow)0 -
I suppose the problem would be, if you had a regular standing order to another bank going on the 25th of the month, so as to pay a direct debit on 28th of the month, it could be possible that on this occasion the direct debit is claimed first and refused before your standing order arrives? Is that how it works?0

I don't have SOs at Chase myself but I have a DD going out from it. It was processed on Christmas Day.2 -

I contacted Chase and told them this is why I would not use them as my main bank.
Told them no use sending SO tomorrow now as I moved money manually and it now no longer in the account 🤷♂️
Schedule shows next payment 3 Jan. Didn't suggest it was deferred till tomorrow.
Suppose at least they sent heads up text else Halifax SO back to Chase tomorrow would have failed, or took me overdrawn.0 -
Official Standing Orders and Direct Debits won't be processed on bank holidays.
The issue is, a lot of the challenger banks do "Scheduled Payments" which are just scheduled faster payments using their own system. Those are the same as you doing a manual faster payment, which are processed 7 days a week.2 -

How would we know these things if it wasn’t for the MSE forum.0 -

You can operate with a zero balance and then top up on the day the DD is taken as long as it's before the afternoon cut off.
Banks always state to ensure you have funds in the a/c the business day prior, but that is only as a precautionary measure to alleviate DDs being returned.
A S/O will not be taken if there insufficient funds as it's a send rather than a pull and again with most banks a 2nd attempt will be made if sufficient funds have been added to the a/c during the day.
In the example you use the DD will be taken on the 28th and the a/c will go into a negative balance until such time the delayed S/O arrives, both usually occurring in the early hours of the same morning.1 -

The SO that didn't go on the 26th, presumably because it was a bank holiday, has not been sent today, a business dayI'm not overly impressed0 -
