DAB delight: digital radios under £20, plus top big brand deals

I am sick to the high teeth of these people criticizing DAB radios. If you want to sit back & listen to glorious hi fi classical music then FM or Freeview etc is not the place to go. It's to buy a high quality Turntable £500-00 + A gorgeous Valve amp, into the thousand pound region & speakers to match. I guess £10,000-00 pounds. Whats more you don't need an aeriel, however DAB gives a FANTASTIC sound & station selection for around £20-00 upwards. Go buy DAB & stop coming on this thread with stupid comments about DAB. I keep looking here thinking there is another offer & have to read the 'same old rubbish' again & again. Go on a general forum & leave the bargain threads alone.Nice to save.0

There are no doubt some people who are undecided and need advise and a good healthy debate on the pro and cons is why this is called a forum
 It depends on the advice.
A lot of the 'cons' quoted I have only experienced on one radio.
On 3 others I have not had any of the issues stated. I therefore conclude that the quality of the radio is more of a contributory factor to the quality of DAB than the DAB transmission itself.
Perfectly acceptable to me and I am very picky about these things.0

For what it's worth the Which? magazine test of Dab radios had this to say about a similar Alba model: (Alba TRDAB2830) "This Alba table-top radio is at the lower end of the budget scale, unfortunately in this instance it seems you get what you pay for, as sound quality is very poor and features are few. "
Their 'best buys' (of the less expensive models) were : Magicbox Lagio and Pure One (although I have the Pure one and it's okay for BBC Radio 5 (as it's far better than analogue am) but I was a bit disappointed with the sound quality - my older (now discontinued) Creative Soundworks 500Dab is much better, but it does have 2 speakers. The Magicbox Lagio also got the highest overall score of the models tested in the Which? test but it was exclusive to Hughes Direct and they no longer seem to be selling it?
Some things in life (televisions, audio products, food) I think you have to be prepared to pay a bit more for quality - cheapest is rarely decent quality unless it's a quality product on offer at a greatly reduced price, only then is it a genuine bargain otherwise it's (usually) just false economy."The happiest of people don't necessarily have the

My point being that this is not a tech forum, its a grabbit forum, the prices quoted are valid "grabbit" posts. Wether DAB is accessible/good/bad/better than fm/worse than fm/works in harrogate etcetcetc, should be kept for a different board.0

but a "grabbit" might not be the bargain it seems so users experiences help people make a choice0

I have found the debate helpful, as though I'm quite a "tecchie" person, DAB is something I haven't tried yet.
Best wishes & thanks to all0

Well what a useful forum it would be then, if run along your lines.
One section has the grabbit cheap without any explanatory or qualifying text.
Somewhere else across MSE, another section runs contributed text which argues for, or argues against, the wisdom of the grabbit recommendations in the other section.
Yeah. Right. That's exactly the way to provide moneysavers with easily accessible, easily comprehended information which will enable them to save their cash rather than waste it. . .
Just because something's cheap doesn't mean it's worth grabbing.
How much is really saved by buying £20sworth of rubbish, whether it's a DAB radio or anything else that happens to rate a mention in grabbit because of price alone?????????????????? 0 0

It won't let me edit my post above, but just wanted to add that the Which report said about the Sony XDRS50 Compact DAB radio:
"The XDR-S50 isn't very loud and sound quality is rather weak and feeble for music, but voices are clear, so this model would be more suited to cricket fans than opera buffs.
Pros: Batteries or mains power, very portable
Cons: No external aerial connection socket, no FM reception, poor music quality.
 Score 34/100"

best of everything; they just make the best
of everything that comes along their way."
