  • Oh No!! Watch it folks!!

Just bought the Phillips on line from Amazon, price shown 29.99, received confirmation of purchase showing price 68.97!! Emailed and asked for a refund of money I was overcharged! Will let you know how I got on.

Forgot to mention VAT was also added, post and package came to 7.50
  • Great offer but don't fall for the hype. I bought an expensive DAB radio expecting better quality etc but the only benefit I have found is more stations.
The quality is NOT as good as FM, even with a good external aerial, and these radios EAT batteries ( a set last about 2 hours!) or consume much more power than my old radio. Not very good ecologically.
I am not so bothered about the new standards, DAB+ / DRM as they will take some time to take over, but I would consider very carefully your own reasons for buying a DAB radio. Stay with FM unless you must have the digital stations.
    Hope this helps someon moneysave.
    Bye for now,
    Paul

HI, i am doing something wrong , the DAB radios at Argos and currys are not showing at the good prices stated, they are almost full price, HELP , want a new DAB as soon as possible.
  • I was all excited as I has asked for one at Christmas. Put it in basket at 1.30, got up this morning and had doubled in price
  • I don't care how cheap DAB radios become, I would never buy one as they are inferior to Analogue radios. The sound quality from the DAB transmission is awful low bitrate MP2 compression and no DAB radio can reproduce it to sound as good as FM. Theres a nasty metallic sound to DAB and it lacks top end. DAB radios are only really useful in a kitchen or environment where the terrible sound quality won't be noticed.

You don't get hiss on FM provided you have a decent signal but on DAB when you lose the signal you get a nasty burbling sound like you are underwater.

I wouldn't have a DAB radio if somebody paid me to have it.

I have got one, and I agree with you. The very best bitrate available in the UK is a not-very-impressive 192 kbps on Radio 3, and even that is reduced frequently to 160kbps. Some of the newer channels are even worse, one recent newcomer broadcasting in an appalling 96kbps, and that is for music, not speech?

I wouldn't buy DAB unless you want extra statios, the audio quality is very poor

    amazon one now £47.06
  • Except when you have a hubby who listens to 5live constantly! On AM, the hissing drives me to distraction, so getting a DAB just for that station alone has been a godsend!!! :D Can't get many other stations though, we are in an 'unofficial' area.
