£10 debt
Had a lovely catch up with my cousin’s boy today. He’s over from Switzerland to improve his English. He’s particularly keen to learn some of our funny sayings. He learned from his Auntie about things going ‘t1ts up’ so told that one to his course tutor, who laughed but said that’s not something he should use in everyday language
It’s really interesting how many strange phrases we use without thinking where they came from. I’m looking forward to explaining more to him as he’s here for a few months.
He saw the Halifax on the High Street and hadn’t realised it was an English place as he saw it in Canada when he visited. I was able to tell him that Halifax, Nova Scotia is basically New Scotland, and there are more of my Macs over there than there are in Scotland due to the Highland clearances.
It’s really interesting talking to him about History and the many quirks of our language. We also talked to him about Cockney rhyming slam as well which greatly amused him.27/5/17 Mort 64705 BTs 1904031/12/17 Mort 59815 BT 1673007/04/20 Mort 49208 BT 1572128/07/20 Mort 47387 BT 1263414/11/20 Mort 45905 BT 10134 20/05/21 Mort 42335 BT 686811/08/22 Mort 32050 BT 2915Sealed Pot Challenge 16 Number 52 -
Thanks for volunteering @Jrcoal5, I have added you to the homepage and AntoMac is right, it's much appreciated.
@AntoMac, don't worry you've been fine as counter upper and I did burst out laughing at your cousin using 't!ts up' to his tutor. Thank you as I've really been short on belly laughs recently. I didn't know that Novia Scotia was New Scotland, but that makes sense. I love history, but I can't really retain the facts for prolonged periods as my brain fog makes concentration difficult at times.
I put £3.76 in the penny challenge.Debt Free Diary:- The Mental Debt Struggle
