Birmingham Midshires Bank stole my money. How to return?

Of course this couldn't happen if the account holders took some responsibility themselves. Yes, Brum have screwed up by taking the DD's, however that's because they've been allowed to by the a/c holders...
As per the DD guarantee.
You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society.
Why haven't the people having problems done so ?0 -
There have been other threads about this. IIRC, if the amount is greater than £1 it'll be returned by cheque. If less than or equal to £1 it'll be donated to charity.
For instance, see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6411992/anyone-still-waiting-on-their-birmingham-midshires-money#latest

Thank you for conceding the point - I knew you'd get there eventually!adindas said:
This is DDs so the money is not coming from zero balance saving account but it is coming from a current accountadindas said:eskbanker said:
The issue as I understand it is taking money (by DD) from an open current account, not a closed savings account!adindas said:
Taking money from the closed Saving account does not just happen to you but it happens to a few of people here in MSEs.Well, not really. [etc, ad nauseam for several pages]6 -
I think the people forget the main issue here is that: the saving account has been closed with closing balance and the CHQ for that saving AC has been sent, yet The BM still debited a current account after 10 days. Where is the money go after the cloaking notification and the CHQ with closing balanced has been sent
The most serious thing here is that she was blaming other people instead of blaming BM such as their IT glitch. That is what I am focusing on my previous postings in p1.
Instead of put the blame on BM for their fault other people are just playing with semantic, another people are even blaming people for not cancelling the DDs for a closed saving account.
I fully believe many people on MSEs understand what DD is and why people have DDs with BM savings. Shall everyone including BM focus on this and acknowledge this is actually BM fault, there should not be any long conversation about this. For some people involving argument over the phone for more than half an hour is not worthy if the money to be recovered is tiny compared to your time.

Well, that's cleared that up.0

The DD is being TAKEN from their CURRENT account & SENT to their (Closed) SAVINGS acc.Adyinvestment said:ayvan said:I already zero the account before because they tell me they will close. They send me the interest after closing. Account is closed now I can not login. After 10 days they surprise take my money with Direct Debit. They take my money 3 times! In same day they use Direct Debit 3 times! I need this money.
Something seems wrong here, what has happened for them to close your account?
If you have took your money out to leave a zero balance how have they taken money out by direct debit 3 times? How can you need this money because the account was zero so you haven't physically lost any? are you overdrawn? is this out of any interest you received?
There is also the possibility that DD was already set up to take the funds prior to account being closed. They (DD's) are usually instructed 5 days prior to be taken.
@soulsaver There is no semantic clarification from @eskbanker they have mealy pointed out the error & no it is not clear what is being meant, for non banking people to understand.
They way it is worded is that funds taken from Savings. Which clearly it has not been.
Simple to resolve. Ring Current account bank & get the DD reversed. Funds back at the end of the day. Problem solved 👍Life in the slow lane3 -

Seems I read it wrong, reading it again I can see you are correct.
Noticed that the OP has not been on the forum since the minute they posted this thread, so I guess they were not interested in reading any replies. *actually I was going by last active so that might not be correct either...time to turn off!*0
