Anyone still waiting on their Birmingham Midshires money?

Options
Out of 3 of us, 2 of us have had the accounts shut down but 1 of us still has savings accounts open with them that haven't been auto-closed yet.

What concerns me is of the 2 of us who have had them auto-closed, I can't see the money transferred to the linked accounts at all. If i remember right I actually think there was an issue with one of ours & a linked account where it said one wasn't linked yet it showed an account being linked.

Any of you receiving your money back in the form of a cheque? If so then who knows when that'll come through with Royal Mail finishing working for the year in October pretty much.

Most of mine were auto-closed on the 1st of December apart from two.
I received a cheque for the balance of one of the remaining two Yesterday, the other to arrive maybe next week?

Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

I withdrew all my money and closed the accounts as soon as I got the letter as I didn't trust them to do it properly.

    Me neither.

But I think they may be closely linked to the Post Office because they seemed to operate in the same terrible way (wouldn't let me withdraw any money from a number of accounts).

Oh well, looks like I'll have to do that thing that I don't like - & phone them.

IIRC if your balance was £1.00 then they gave it to charity? I made sure all my accounts had more in so I should be due money back. I'll see what they say. I would've expected a cheque by now but then we have the Royal Mail situation.

You're right. I had £1 balance, & got the closure letter saying they'd donated it.

Cheque for second account and closing statements for both arrived in the post Today.
All done and dusted now, and in a last hurrah, my DDs counted for a switch bonus in December B)
I assume this is why two were treated differently.

If you'd altered your linked ac within 5 working days of the closure date, they send a chq for the balance, close the account and , in my case, then take a payment against the DD They said it will be automatically refunded, but mine hasn't appeared in 2+ weeks

They've also hired in temps (I guess) who have no idea - the CS I talked basically blamed me for not cancelling the DD, 'as it continues to be taken monthly until you do'.

I think it is safe to say the BM back office isn't as well organised as it should be.

That's an interesting one - I've a couple accounts which paid direct debits AFTER my BM was allegedly closed ... and the money wasn't returned.

What's likely to happen to that money?

Side note, one account came forward in the form of a cheque this afternoon (our postie no longer works mornings it seems) so I'll give it a while longer yet as there's a few more to come.

Based on my experience, you won't get much joy contacting BM. If you contact the Bank that sent the DD, they should be able to recall it for a DD on the same day you call them (as done for me). For older DDs, you will need to get your Bank to claim the money back for you from BM.

Sounds like fun. Thankfully I'm only looking at £2-£4 being 'gone' then.

I've argued the toss over such an amount in the past purely because mines-is-mine.

Maybe I'm mellowing ever so slightly. I'm all argued out.
