@DigSunPap - it's a beauty fridge, designed to keep your goodies 20° below room temperature. For me it will serve as a mini-bar.
@goldfinches - I thought I had read all of Maeve Binchy's books but clearly not this one. I love her work, it reminds me of a warm and gentle Ireland. That an ex-BF from Cork hated her with a passion (for making the Irish look stupid) makes me love her even more. Stupid was I for indulging his nonsense. No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.8 -
Got a bargain today from the Oxfam online shop.. a pair of T M Lewin hot and cold tap cufflinks for 7.99 👍 Husband will be very pleased with those.
Bought 6x 90L storage bags from Amazon for 19.99, saving 17%. We will be able to store husband's summer shirts and chinos and use one to take unwanted clothes to charity shops. That will make looking for worn collars and cuffs and moth holes in his wardrobe so much easier.
Most charity shops will take clean but damaged clothes for recycling as rags if you keep them separate from any other donations and mark the bag or box clean rags.7 -
Good luck to those starting new jobs or having interviews for jobs! Diddly squat to report lately.....local chazza shops just seem full of the same old same old and Zara stuff that nobody wants7

A few weeks ago I bought a Next fleece top for 50p, cheap because there was a scorch mark on the pocket (top picture).
I’ve finally sewn some flowers on it. They’re varied because I made them up as I went along, and if it were for wear outside the house, I’d have taken more care, but it isn’t, so I didn’t.
The sticking out bit is supposed to be a bud.
I used an oddment of fleece from the scrap bag, a button from some I’d saved and sewing thread I had already, so no cost.
I now need to road test it and see if the flowers catch on things!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Embroidery could look nice, but again... time taken... I spent ages embroidering the knee of some favourite jeans once. It certainly made them last longer but it was quite time consuming and I learnt how easy it is to make something too bulky!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

@Miró - could you fancy a weekend away in not very sunny Oxford? The chazzas here are bulging with lovely items and many of the larger ones are open on a Sunday too. If you don't fancy Oxford how about Eastbourne which has the highest number of charity shops per person in the UK?
@Cherryfudge - I also jumped to the conclusion they were poppies and think they're lovely and that you're very clever indeed. I should think you might be picked for the newsletter next week too.
@Rosa_Damascena - the ex I despise married someone deeply unpleasant. What cheered me up about the situation once I'd got over the initial shock was that they were making life intolerable for one another regularly and still are. I do enjoy cooking without him getting under my feet all the time.
@MrsStepford - I remember seeing those cufflinks in catalogues back in the day and thinking they were very appealing, nice price too.
I had to go to an appointment this morning by bus instead of cycling there as I'd planned due to the weather, grrr, and the way back to the return stop took me past the Oxfam superstore so I treated myself to a coffee in their cafe before browsing. I found two Ottolenghi cookbooks on display for £6.99 each and quickly snapped them up only to discover when I got home that I already owned one and hadn't recognised it because it had a jacket with photos, which the one I'd already got hasn't, so I'm going to either return it or put it on the bay of e. Then I picked up a 4l snap top container, £1.99, two 100% cotton polo necks in dark red and pink, £5.99 each, a beautifully soft and silky navy Boden velvet sweatshirt, £12.99, a pair of black mid-weight Escada straight leg trousers, £6.99 and a cream with navy stripes Land's End top, £19.99.
And for those gulping at the price of the Land's End top, I stupidly didn't notice the price due to running into a friend that I hadn't seen for a while and having a good old chin wag. I'm going to try it on and then think it over.9 -
Thanks for the nice comments - they do look like Royal British Legion poppies, perhaps that was subconscious inspiration. I might add some leaves to round it out a bit, and try to flatten that bottom one that looks windswept!
I completely forgot to mention buying a pale blue striped Olsen top in Sue Ryder today. £5. I've not tried it on yet so I don't know if it's a keeper.
@MrsStepford, you did really well out of your Oxfam trip, even if the Land's End top is expensive. I wonder if they put the more expensive things in the bigger shops to get the price, or if it's co-incidence. Out of interest, I looked at the Land's End items in their online shop and the £19.99 ones are more likely to be dresses than tops.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
