I'm not sure where to ask this but I'll ask it here.

If you bought a couple of pictures in a cs, how can you check if they're real (itms?) I bought a couple of pictures that I like the look of and they're going up in the hall regardless, but what if they're worth big money? How would I know? I was thinking of taking them into a sale room next week, see what value they put on them. I haven't taken them apart to see what quality the actual picture is, because I'm not sure I could tell ha haa! The backing is recent, as is the stringing. Does anyone have any tips please...?

I'm no expert but I first G**gle the artist to see if they are a known one. I then look at the surface - I had one painting that I thought was original until I realised that whilst I could see brushstrokes the surface was smooth so it was a print.  Any further than that I'm at a loss and looking forward to other peoples replies.

Thanks dND. They're Winnie The Pooh sketches, so even if I took them apart it might only tell me that they are pencil on paper/card, and I'd be no further forward with if they're real or not...

When the daylight improves I'll take pics.
