I can identify with the brooch-wearing

What swung it for me was a collection point en-route to work.

Called into a couple of charity shops in Ripon this morning and came away with a Cynthia Rowley pure silk oblong scarf in shades of burgundy, pink and dark green splodges, BNWT, £4.99.  Also got a knitted jersey top by FDJ in a dark teal shade with weird silver metal eyelets and bobbles round the neck and down the sleeves.  Lovely heavy quality, (so it should be), BNWT's and original price tag of £103!!!  I paid a whopping £15 cos it's so different!!

Still no sign of the new YMCA chazza shop near Booths opening but it looks ready to open soon.  Looks like it's gonna be a big one!

I sallied forth this afternoon to attempt to visit the Barnardo's shop which I had checked online was open until 5:30pm, needless to say I arrived at the door at 4:05pm to find a handwritten notice giving this week's hours as 10am-4pm. I do understand that it is difficult to stay open when you are short of both paid staff and volunteers but why, oh why, can't they find a better way of telling potential customers. Finding out at the door is too late and nobody wants to pester them with phone calls asking if they're open!

Anyway I crossed the road to find solace in Oxfam and bought this cd Missa Luba by Les Troubadours Du Roi Baudouin: Amazon.co.uk: CDs & Vinyl, £2.99, which is lovely and a copy of this book The Practical Mushroom Encyclopedia, Identifying, Picking and: Amazon.co.uk: Peter Jordan and Steven Wheeler: 9780681970595: Books, £3.99, which will be very handy. I also bought a huge kimchi keeper, £3.99, and a rubbermaid turntable, £1.99, photos below. 



See what I mean about the size of the kimchi keeper? It's nice, robust plastic with sturdy clips though so will be useful in my larder although I'm still boggling at the idea of making, let alone eating, so much kimchi.

Oh the utter joy of charity shops.! For some time I have been lusting after a big Cornishware breakfast cup. (£18 in Johnny Lulu’s)
Today in the CS I spotted an M & S version for 50p. Naughty M and S have clearly copied it and  called it  Truro. I’m not bothered about provenance just love the look of it and the price.

No argument from me on that call - I am the proud owner of a Burleigh Arden little cream jug (which holds USB sticks) and has escaped the wrath of Mission Creep by virtue of being small, easy to hide & anyway Owned By Denby. (I am on such thin ice there, but so long as I stop at Just One Piece...)

Wearing brooches is a middle aged thing? Hm. Count me in. I bought something to relieve the unadulterated black of the funeral suit jacket & am exhuming the stuff I decorated my denim jacket with as a student with a certain amusement. Some of the pieces are quite fun. All ruthlessly costume jewellery but in isolation a faceted Cairngorm can look quiet dashing, and a couple of the bar brooches are ruthlessly Art Deco in style. Had I inherited any of them, I might be tempted to wonder, but since I know myself to have been a cheerful & impecunious magpie, they're just fun.

My husband is chazza-trained and when he goes anywhere for work, he looks for charity shops and peruses the shirts, trousers and suits. Many people don't think of getting trousers altered but if they were expensive e.g. Ermenegildo Zegna, Paul Smith, Aquascutum, Jaeger it can be worth doing if they are in excellent condition and will last years.If the guy is really good, people don't immediately think chazza.
