With any kind of air-con or heat-pump, you'd have to mount the compressor, the part with the fans, on the outside, so you would be asking if that would be permitted as wall furniture, as well as permission on drilling through through the external wall for the pipes and cables. You'd also need to consult with the other residents I would think, as there would be a potential noise issue from the compressor that may affect them, and which if not consulted they could raise complaints that may require you to remove it.
  • I know we would be an absolute no to anything like this in our block - even going out through the walls for a tumble dryer vent is a straight refusal, and I'm pretty sure there would be a concern raised about noise and vibration with units like this, too. (At this stage I'm pretending that our two extractor vents and the external tap don't exist - lalalala....

Mstty am I understanding this correctly?

For my living room I need about 12000 BTU so something like this https://www.orionairsales.co.uk/mitsubishi-electric-air-conditioning-msz-hr35vf-classic-wall-mounted-35kw12000btu-r32-a-240v50hz-10699-p.asp or the one you listed would work for me?

It's about £1k, can install myself or even pay someone....so what's the difference between this and a heat pump or do I need a heat pump to run this? I dunno where the thousands of pounds costs are coming from?

    Thanks

Both are heat pumps, But the Split system is where the compressor and fans are outside so that all you have inside is a blower fan, The all in one units are meant to be rather quiet and are self install, But i still wouldn't put it in a bedroom, The split units need a pro to install really as you are meant to pull a vacuum on the lines to get rid of the air even though they come pre-charged with the Gas.

Installed today and Mrs mstty is now working out in the gym at a balmy 17-18oC which is ideal apparently.

Little job to clean up the wiring and to be honest want a bank of sockets down one side anyway.

I will stick the p110 energy monitor plug on it at some point but the manual says 0.75kw at full speed for heating with an output of up to 2.35kw (the energy sticker suggest something else so will check the usage at some point next week)

Sadly I can see no way that they would allow you to hang an external unit off the wall of a leasehold block. All sorts of issues, not just noise, but 3rd party liability, 'ealth and safety, etc.
You might get permission to cut vents for an internal unit, but even still it's structural. A kitchen extractor fan is typically 100mm, but twin 180mm vents are something else.
What floor is the flat on? Anything above g/f, you'd need scaffolding or a cherry picker just to mount the external vents.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Actually the vents on this unit are cleverly designed in that they fold in half to be pushed through the hole on a chain that then opens them up and then secures them tight without the need to be on the other side of the wall.

But yes the right discussions would have to be had and agreed.

That said once heatpump devices actually get recognised as improving efficiency and improving EPC's that can also be to the landlords benefit.

It cost me around 2500 for 2* 2.5Kw Daikin and 200ish for planning permission, the bigger(7.1Kw) one was 2500 + 1100 (for noise assessemnt) + 250 for PP
They are very efficient to run.  These are the heat outputs, larger units will need dedicated circuits due to current drawn.

Too many hoops to jump to get this on flats imho
