I am diagnosed with a lot of health conditions and require 9 regular medications. I am finding it very difficult to get to my local pharmacy to collect the medications and they will not deliver.
I have previously tried one online pharmacy but had problems with them not supplying the medications i need on time.
Can anyone recommend a reliable service please?

Do you have an alternative local pharmacy who may be able to deliver?
  • I use Pharmact2U  I have never had any problems as long as you order in plenty of time.

Try other  pharmacies in your local area. I get mine delivered free from a pharmacy which is a bus ride away to get to and they're very reliable.

My mother always found Boots to be good. But like everywhere, it varies on branch.

As others, ring round other local pharmacy & see if they do.

I'd agree with it being patchy - at the start of the pandemic DH was organising a weekly collection for someone, which required a five mile drive in each direction to a large supermarket pharmacy. Even when you got there, you couldn't be sure the pharmacy would supply what was expected, so there were a few return trips.

This person had started using that pharmacy because their local one had been hopeless, so we organised for them to start using one much nearer to us. It was a bit up and down to start with but then settled down, and the real victory was getting the surgery to use dossette boxes AND deliver! Again, took a few attempts to get it running smoothly.

DH was using Boots but found them unreliable and they're not local.

Does your surgery have a linked pharmacy, and will they deliver?

Finally, our surgery is regularly advertising for volunteers to help patients get to appointments if they need a lift. I wonder if they would also help you find someone to pick up for you, if delivery proves impossible?

Friend of mine delivers for a local pharmacy and he often travels miles to addresses. It seems that some patients found their local pharmacy didn’t deliver ‘but their daughters did’ albeit it was say 10 miles away, so they simply had their GP email prescriptions to that pharmacy. Pharmacy’s not bothered as it’s more money in their coffers. Although my friends using the pharmacy van he still tires of the long distances between drops

    Hi OP
If you are not up to it, ask family yo Google.
As another stated, Boots offer a free service, but read the T&C's as it may be only "repeat prescriptions"
The local one we use delivers free repasts and new -  possibly because we are over 60 and have several meds, not sure - a family friend told us about it and we gave our gp a "nominated chemist" and it was the one doing free deliveries.

I used to use Boots, who had a very handy mini-dispensary, opposite our GP (very useful, if there was a problem, as an assistant could just cross the road). However, they started charging ; quite a high standard price, as we aren't very far away. Online orders were still free, but I was told that unusual or regularly changing drugs could be a problem, so my husband started collecting for me, when he retired.

We used them 5 years ago.  My then partner got someone else’s, we lived on the edge of Dartmoor and this person lived in Birmingham.  Mine ended up going halfway round Devon and Cornwall (you could track it online) and I had run out of most things by the time I eventually got it even though I ordered it I’m plenty of time.  We stopped using it after that

The problem is whether a service is good depends on the local pharmacy/area.  I live in a small market town and both the local Boots and an independent are very good.  I phoned Boots up one day to check if an outstanding item had arrived and the pharmacist dropped it in on her way home.   :)  Our Boots and the independent will both deliver for free if you have health issues which prevent you from leaving the house very often.  Boots will deliver for a fee - I think it’s about £50 a year.
