Cosy Octopus for Heat Pump Owners

I know our circumstances allow us to make the most of any time of us tariff such as this cosy one. Working from home full time and we are up early at 5:30am anyway and when I have crunched the numbers again the 4-7pm expensive period on the cost tariff we can divert usage away easily. The only issue is feeling constrained by such rigid timing and would we slip because we like being rebellious.
I do hope it is about in some form from 1st April 2024 when our fix ends or perhaps Eon Next will by then be offering a similar tariff.0 -

Thank you. Good to see that it's possible. I'm still choosing, but can add the ability to customise control to my shortlist of things to look at.
Whether it's desirable or not is another matter... Will depend on the sums for each house/insulation/pump and lifestyle combination, I guess.0 -
EDIT: just noting that this post is almost certainly wrong. Read the following posts.
I've been trying to work out whether Cozy tariff would be a good idea for me, once my heat pump is installed. My current calculations suggest not. This is because most of my electric usage will not be the heat pump and I won't be able to shift it out of the 4-7pm penal rate.
Over Nov-Jan, I used a daily average of 10kWh of electric, and that's after time shifting washer, dishwasher and tumble drier to before 4pm, to use the small amount of solar electric we generate in winter. About a quarter of this is used between 4-7pm, due to cooking, so I can't really time shift this. Under Cozy, I'd be paying the penal rate on this.
In comparison, my HP should use about 2kWh per day in winter. (I used about 7kWh of gas, so with a projected SCOP of 3.5, that's 2kWh of electric.) So even assuming I turn off the heat pump during 4-7pm, and crank it up during the Cozy cheap periods, I've still got a big chunk of my electric usage stuck in the 4-7pm penalty rate zone. This pretty much balances out the savings from the two cheap rate time periods.
Based on Agile prices over the same period, however, the Agile tariff would be much better. I could reduce my electric bill by half. But of course the last three months of Agile may not be what I'll get in future.koru0 -

Direct electric heating might have a lower total cost.

I have a small wager with a friend that Octopus Go will be a dead tariff within the next 12 months. Octopus is undoubtedly moving towards intelligent tariffs for EV charging.

As for the 7kWh gas to heat for a day, did you mean 7 meter units?0 -
If you are already with Octopus you can use the Octopus Compare app to see how much Cosy would be costing you at the moment vs any if the other Octopus tariffs.

The 7 is supposedly kWh, from an export from Octopus. But I see what you and Qrizb are getting at. That's ridiculously low for winter. Overall, the Octopus app tells me I used 7535kWh of gas between Nov and Jan, so that's more than 80kWh per day. Clearly, my figures are wrong somewhere! I'll have a poke around and work out what went wrong. Probably Cozy is better than I thought. Though I still think Agile is a lot better.koru0 -
Ah, the Compare app is external. That's why Octopus did not tell me about it. I need to provide the API for the Compare app. And Octopus says that I should not share it with anyone. A dilemma...koru0
