Whether it makes financial sense is for heat pump owners to judge.

PS: it is compatible with Agile Outgoing.

We could make that work as it suggests 6 hours would be at 21p/kwh in a day and we run our heatpump 24/7.

In addition we have a log burner to spark up 4-7pm and happy to move some cooking into the earlier slots.

Added benefit cheaper times for washing machine/tumble dryer. Also in the summer two three hour periods to stick the incoming heat pump air con units on in the gym/bedroom and lounge.

Could be a no brainer when our current fix ends April 2024.

    You have peaked my interest

Ok couldn't resist here are my calculations as of today not knowing what will happen come April 2023

Current total average for December 30kwh

    Current fix deal with Eon

30 kWh at 29.24p fixed until April 2024

    £8.77 Total

    Cosy Octopus

    £1.58 6 cheap hours at 21.03p
    £1.68 3 expensive hours at 56.08p
    £5.26 15 hours at 35.06p

    £8.52 Total

That's without shifting dishwasher, washing machine, Tumbledryer and oven cooking to the cheaper periods

However it's not clear what the energy subsidy from the Government will be from April 2023 so not one to calculate now so will stay on the fix for now.

Very interesting tariff though and the SC is cheaper on cost by £47 a year

Additionally you don't seem to prove you have a heatpump. So for those on electric only single rate tariff could take advantage here.

Not unlike those that never had an electric car on Octopus Go etc.

They do reserve the right to ask for the MCS certificate to prove it, so I wouldn't suggest people head down that path...

Many don't have one they are not a legal requirement and if new build you don't need it for any proof.

They can of Cours have a picture of my plant room and outside unit and maybe a video but going by how they checked for cars on EV tariffs I suspect they are too busy to do this.
  • Interesting.  I don't think we could shift much out of the peak rate though, far too early for cooking (the slow cooker is great but not every single day) or too late for most meals, if starting at 7pm.  We don't routinely do much else then though, other than having 2 TVs on whilst Mum's cooking, and the computer at the weekend.

Our Tracker finishes in August, I'm hoping prices in spring and summer will be nice and low.  What happens after that is anyone's guess right now, good to know this is one l option anyway.

(No idea what an MCS is but they could have photos of all the bits of the pump and cylinder and the ridiculously basic manual if they'd like.)

I doubt that will work. The supplier is wanting to see proof that the installer was MCS certified.

The same requirement exists when installing solar PV when export payments are being sought.

It is too early to see how this one is going to settle down, Octopus do like the MCS certificate though as it is a requirement for getting an export MPAN with them and they have picked MCS as their preferred certification body, so not surprised to see them referencing it again this time.
Still not clear right now if they intend to include GSHP as well as ASHP and if they will accept air-to-air solutions, so much to discover in the days ahead, but as a start it is certainly an interesting tariff...

As per my rough early figures and adding in shifting heavy energy bits and pieces we could save up to £1.50 a day in winter and 50p in summer so £185 a year but it all depends on what happens April 2023 and the Government subsidy at that point.

Our fix means we can hang back but anyone with a heatpump that works from home or can shift things easily should consider this tariff.
