  • We are in the process of having a new bathroom fitted. Up to now the bath is in for us to use over easter. The filler is a mixer type and the cold is running fine but the hot water only comes out with a trickle. Is it the type of filler we have chosen or is there something we can do to make the hot water pressure better? Thanks
  • hello, i am new to the forum so please forgive any misdemeanour.

i am refitting the bathroom after a house fire, and have a new sink with a 4.5 cm drain.
into this i want to fit a pop up bath plug and a sink plug.
these are from america as theyre copper and i cant get them here.
are fittings from the U.S different, and also , which size should i fit to a 4.5 cm drain hole - 1 1/2 inch or 1 5/8 inch please?
alsowhat should i use to fix the plug down, silicon glue?

also, any advice on removing the old drain from the bath to put the new pop up plug in?

thanks in advance for any help offered :)

I need to replace an old gas CH boiler. we have a gravity feed system supplying one main bathroom and one en-suite shower room. there is a second en-suite with an electric shower supplied by the cold water mains. most weeks there are only two of us at home but occassionally children/grandchildren come to stay. A combi boiler would save space, but do we need to stay with a gravity feed to supply hot water and shower requirements. Thanks Bernie

  • hoping someone can help. my solo boiler stopped working after a heated towel rail was fitted. i think it's the pump or sludge. does anyone know what the going price is to have a pump replaced

I've been quoted £800 including VAT for a new plywood / chipwood floor for my bathroom, which is approx 7ft square. The old floor which is water damaged is being taken out, so my toilet and sink has to be removed. When the new floor has been fitted I'm having laminate (that I've already paid for) to be laid.
Does anyone think that £800 is a good deal? What should I expect to pay do you think?

    many thanks!

£800 is way too steep if all you are having done is the laying of some plywood in preparation for laying laminate and putting your suite back in. however, if you are having the actual floorboards replaced, i think that this maybe a far quote not that i can see any reason for them to do this unless the leak has been so longstanding as to have rotted your boards. i've had my whole bathroom retiled and a new suite fitted for £700 without materials by getting some quotes off myhammer.co.uk. this shoudl give you a fairly good idea of how much it will cost and then you can either engage one of the trades people off this or check out your local trade register
  • I'm hoping someone may be able to answer this query... Our bathroom has a shower attached to the bath taps, if only the hot water is on it works (scalding) as long as you don't lift it above waste height, if the cold tap is on it works fine, if both taps are on the water is always freezing. I presume the hot water's pressure is not good - apparantly the header tank is too low down. The cold mains is also apparently connected directly to the bath. What would have to be done to have a shower with good pressure and where we can change the temperature?

    Many thanks,
    Paula
