Hi. Not sure if anyone else has seen this but I just got an email from OVO Energy telling me my electricity price is going up in January. This is on top of the previous EPG price I was put on in October!! Should I query this as I thought prices were held until end of March ?
I don't remember any official source that said prices were held until end of March, all I remember is that there is a discount being applied to the current cap which expires at the end of March. So if the cap increases, your tariff increases, unless the EPG also increases to cover it.
The way it works is made more obvious when you get your bill: typically they'll charge the capped rate and then apply an EPG discount to this bill.

  • I'm with Bulb on standard DD tariff. Price per kWh for electricity reducing from 33.859p to 33.698p.

Thanks for email addresses, email sent off to all with complaint and to explain why this is happening, given uk gov cap.
And we wonder why the suppliers often have poor levels of servicing when this is the sort of rubbish they have to put up with.

But E7 customers appear to be penalised.
No they are not.   The economy 7 pricing models vary with suppliers.   Some suppliers are offering very attractive night rates whilst others are not.   So, you just switch to the one that suits your ratio.

OVO are ripping off North of Scotland customers with new rates.

We use above average energy here for heating  in winter.

But it doesnt explain why for E7 dd users price is going up.
The price is going up because of changes in the split and changes to the underlying rates which are then reduced by the subsidy mechanism.

That is bonkers some have rate rise and others a rate decrease.

There appears to be no rhyme nor reason to this.
But E7 customers appear to be penalised.

Can you confirm if your on E7 rate or not?
Different E7 rates from different suppliers in different parts of the country. Different supplier's have different rates, the same suppliers have different rates in different regions. E7 is one of the few tariff where one can make significant savings by changing suppliers if they have a large difference between day and night usage.
    Ok Ill bite

Martin Lewis in blog said rate rise was "trivial for majority of users".

20% increase in night rate is not trivial especially for Scotland where average energy use is higher in winter.

And if you have over 60% of energy on night rate you are paying far far more

If parts of England where it is warmer than North of Scotland pay less, then system is a piece of cack and needs reformed, or binned completely and with something new to replace it!

Team who deal with complaint is chief execs office is not servicing team.

You should  know most organizations have teams specifically for complaints. OVO at 1500 employees is not a small company

I also emailed the regulator about this issue

In my opinion E7 customers are being ripped off.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, it is a duck!

We are each entitlled to our own opinions.

And unless you work for OVO/OFFGEN yours and my comments are opinions !

Do you understand what majority means?

It means for some, it won't be trivial.
  • Best not to type in capitals - in case you don’t realise, it’s extremely rude as, in internet speak it’s shouting. If you do it directly at someone in response to something of theirs you have quoted then it is like grabbing them by the lapels and shouting in their face. If you’d not behave like that in real life, probably best not to on the internet either!

The majority of households in the U.K. - and a huge majority at that - are on single rate tariffs - and so will not see much if any increase. Many E7 customers have already reported night rates falling, and so they too can save money. This means that the statement you are taking issue with is entirely correct.

With a lot of companies, complaints are screened by servicing department first and then only a small number are actually escalated. This is so frequent complaints can be replied to with standard responses.
