Done it! Shirt in cs box, mug decluttered itself, bits and pieces off floor, 7 more Xmas baubles, a Mars bar eaten and 4 Dyson cylinders of fluff dust and hair. I've made my 1164 and probably beyond as I know there's items I've not remembered to count over the year.
All buckets emptied, dishes washed. At this time of year I always reminisce about my final job of the year when we lived in our first flat - washing out the stair. I don't miss it enough to go wash someone else's stair but it always felt a nice link back to all the other housewives who had done the same as me back to 1932 when the flats were built, I felt them with me and it kind of signified everythingship shapefor the new year. Where we now live i don't hear the ships hooters at midnight, i was in sound of them in all my houses. That used to be the sound of midnight for me, a much nicer sound than nowadays when its usually fireworks which of course aren't for everyone.
Wishing everyone on here a good new year and hoping 2024 will be kind to us all. Sorry to read about recent losses but happy to read about positive events too. Its a great thread, a great group of friendly declutterati and of course the marvellous, our very own mrs sd with backup from mr sd and dsis sd. Thanks all xxxxxxxx

Just popping in as sorted another shelf in the pantry while DH was cooking 'party bits'. I did the bread shelf and as the kids haven't been at school there was OOD bread, wraps, crumpets etc. No idea why they don't eat it when off school.
Thank you Mrs SD ,no idea what happened to my numbers.
So final count of the year

Just took three tops I've never liked much over to the recycling bank - so a new balance of 380 things out, and 128 in (including Christmas presents). I have a pile of books read and ready to go, and intend to get 2024 off to a good start by taking them to the Wimbledon bookswap tomorrow on the way to lunch with my cousin.
Happy New Year to everyone, and much thanks to Mrs SD for running the thread and keeping us all encouraged.

yes floss, first time i heard it i was about 8 i think and allowed to stay up. We were at my grandma and grandad (a house i later bought and lived in) and we all went through to the porch (wooden and glass precursor to a modern conservatory, granda built one on each house they lived in) and grandma opened the back door just before 12. I was puzzled, then amazed at the sound once 12 o clock came. Lovely memories and a sound i can still hear in my mind.
thank you

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks to include MMiM - do this before I go to bed
2. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ I have an acronym - I.R.I.S. being Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off
3. Implement a new sleep/wake up regime - start going to bed earlier (target before 2:00 a.m.) get up earlier (target by 9:00 a.m.)
4. Deal with ‘Urgent’ daily mail immediately & the rest at the weekend
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. If I spot a mini task deal with it immediately e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
7. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Rather a longer rest than I intended 😉 DH got home about 15:30 having stopped off at the sm to pick up a few bits & get petrol 🙂 He managed to avoid the rain as within 15mins of getting in the heavens opened 😧 Third load of LDFPA has been done, another scarf is completed & several more programmes watched & deleted from TV Planner.
2564 - 2568 Plastic pot, uu laundry liquid bottle, kitchen recycling, drinks cans, uu glass quarter bottle of cognac (enough cognac to light the Christmas pudding) - recycled

Great decluttering Happy_Kitties 👏
Excellent decluttering vulpix 👏 I do love a pic & one of a roaring log fire will make me feel warm 😉 The tin of playing cards sounds like a real treasure 😊 I did make a note of your 2023 goals: renovations & decorating; lose weight; use up craft stash & deal with Frogs. I think it is fair to say that you have had a very successful 2023 😊🥳
2Scratters, that all sounds very familiar 😉 However, at least you & your DH have all the paperwork in place for your renovations & are not starting from scratch 🤩 Well done on keeping the decluttering going 👏 A slow & steady pace is getting you a long way & is clearing the path to your renovations in 2024 😊 Very pleased to hear that you are getting over Covid & that you will go into 2024 feeling better 😊
retiredinfrance, please don’t sell yourself short 🙏 A lovely post 😊
-taff, a lovely post & so gratifying to hear that our fellow declutterati are keeping each other going 😊 I have really enjoyed singing along to your month of songs/carols on the Daily Thread 😊 I will gratefully accept one medal 🏅 & one Gold Star ⭐️
GrannyKate, sorry to hear that you are still suffering from the lurgy 😔 What a good result from the sale of the fridge freezer 👏 What an upbeat note to end the year - an OBE for your niece 😊🤩 Your DB is smiling down on her 😊 Two wonderful holidays to look forward to in 2024 😊
What a lovely post Moorviews 😊 Some great insights into our world of decluttering & very succinctly put 👏 My favourite is “Learning the difference between the precious and the clutter” which I think is something that many of us struggle with 😔
What a beautifully written post flamingo747 😻
SuffolkSue, that did make me smile - “a fully qualified procrastinator” Your seat is reserved for the 2024 EDT 🙂
Floss, no wonder you are glad to be seeing the back of 2023 - it has been a tough year 😔 Some lovely things to look forward to in 2024 😊 The Northern Lights Cruise sounds amazing 🤩
Muddy_Walker, you are very welcome 🙂 With MrMW washing floors, I hope that means he also assists with the decluttering 😉
QueenJess, excellent decluttering of your clothing 👏 Personally I think that DH should volunteer to declutter at least 34 shirts then you would only need 50 items to hit 40,000 😉 Probably more chance of me winning Euromillions even though I never buy a ticket 🤣
Fizz2015, are you ‘sure’ you are sorting the lego & not just playing with it 🤔🤣 Sorry, I am joking 🙃
Excellent decluttering daisy_1571 👏 Wishing you luck with one last push to declutter 19 items 🍀 as I really, really want to send you a Gold Star for reaching your target for 2023 😊
flamingo747, a couple of good ideas for those trying to hit a target before midnight 👏
florianatwobob your seat is reserved 😊
Congratulations on reaching your target daisy_1571 👏🥳 One Gold Star ⭐️ is on its way 😊 What a delightful memory 😻 & a lovely sense of continuity 😊 I think I would prefer the sound of hooters rather than fireworks 🤨 An added bonus is that the hooters would go off at midnight, whereas fireworks seem to last from about 18:00 to 02:00 & I am just talking about the loud ones rather than the pretty ones 😔 Hope everyone is managing to keep their pets calm with all the noise 🤞
Great decluttering charlies_tribe 👏 & what a brilliant total for 2023 😊 Your seat is reserved & our rather more sedate trainee driver will be pootling around the U.K., Europe & U.S.A. & places beyond picking up the declutterati of 2024 🙂 Remember the EDT is a magical train 😉
Congratulations QueenJess 👏🥳 40,000 is an absolutely stupendous achievement 🤩 one Gold Star ⭐️ on its way. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t run into any fireworks 😂
diminua an excellent finish to your 2023 decluttering campaign 👏 Your reservation for the 2024 EDT is confirmed 🙂
daisy_1571, such lovely memories 😊
All caught up again & only leaves me to wish you all
A HAPPY, HEALTHY & PROSPEROUS 2024

Last shift of 2023 completed at 5.30pm so that's all good.
A huge thank you to everyone on here, good to have such a nice bunch of folks.
Final totals:
4771-4772: 2GB data deleted
4773: 50 emails deleted
4774-4785: items to recycling
4786-4812: items to bin
4813: leaflets from communal areas to recycling
4814-4819: 3 binbags and 3 bags of recycling escorted downstairs.
Add to that the 568 deferred decisions now made for a grand total of 5387 items decluttered in 2023.
No spend days: target was 209, actually managed 223. (given that Sparks will be touring again in 2024, looks like I need as many NSD's as I can get)
See you next year - I won't be doing a huge amount tomorrow as housework and laundry seem to be awfully unlucky on the first day of a new year...‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.
