Hi all, well yesterday after lunch I corralled all the christmas cards but they are waiting to be dealt with today as some had new addresses etc in and need to be gone through.
The top of the meter cupboard was cleared, 1 task done, it was mostly OHs post but also empty envelopes and general crud so stuff put in the bin and recycling. I wandered around the house randomly chucking various bits into various bins. OH has filled the hall with stuff from the car boot ready for the service that didn't happen and it will probably stay there until next week nowI sorted out loads of shopping bags from around the house, folded and corralled, some into my car boot and some ready to go into OHs boot with instructions NOT to buy any more
1 task
I collected together 8 empty plastic sweet tins, not from this year, we only had 1 but I decanted the sweets into a proper tin along with various other wrapped chocs and the plastic ones are in the car boot to be taken into school as they use them to send home cookery etc. when the pupils forget to bring a tin. Not completely gone but out of the house and even though OH does use them for cakes we do have a lot of proper tins. I have to confess to having a bit of a thing about nice tins
Today I have topped up the liquid handwash in the bathroom and put into use a soap/sponge thing I got for Christmas. I have looked through my stash of soaps etc and will not have to buy any for a while. As another poster said, ( sorry I can't remember who it was, I will have to start taking notes), I have soap collected from hotels etc that needs using up
. Anyhow various bits collected from around the bathroom and binned. Bathroom bin emptied.
Load of washing in the machine and dry stuff sorted. My stuff put away, OHs folded and put in a pile. 1 task.
This morning I have used some of the lotions and potions so 1 self care
Time for lunch, hopefully I will be back later with more
9 - 11 tasks
12 -20 plastic tubs
21 bathroom bin emptied
22 self care
22/2023
Take care everyone16 -
Hi. Up very early to take DD1 and BF to the airport. Christmas and New Year are over for us now. A lot of laundry and tidying up to be done. Christmas decorations to be put away and the sitting room cleared in readiness for builders next week. Can’t remember who was saying about getting fed up with building work and the dust and disruption. It is depressing but eventually it will all end. I just hope I can remember how to clean a house properly when that time comes. 🤣After a new fire place and a radiator rejig I may need another break before a new bathroom. We had almost a year of outside building work last year. As nice as the builders are it does get tiresome. In the bin today a non stick frying pan that isn’t non stick anymore. It has been interesting to read about all the different approaches you all have to decluttering. I really like the 23 minutes a day idea. I am going to adopt and adapt to 23 minutes of activity a day, over and above what I already do.
I am also going to declutter and spring clean by room, starting with the easy spare room. It is tiny and only just fits an opened trundle bed and tall chest of drawers. When the bed is back to a single there is also a bookshelf with ornaments in there. I am at maintenance now so there may be slim pickings.I am loving reading all your posts.Vx:17 -
Hi everyone,
There has been some fantastic efforts so far; well done all has made a start on it!
First day home from our New Year’s break, and I have started with my first instalment…or should that be uninstallment?! I don’t know!
21 kilos of books donated or binned (some were too badly damaged)
3 kilos of magazines
5 kilos of old cosmetics that couldn’t be donated
12.5 kilos of clothes binned or donated
3 kilos of cardboards recycled '
44.5 kilos gone, 1981.5 kilos to go to my 2023 kilo target!
Admittedly, this was the easy stuff! It took me an hour to gather this lot at the most. It’ll be much harder for the remaining 51 weeks!18 -
I had a collection of plant pots picked up on Saturday. Found another 3 yesterday and had messaged the lady to see if she wanted anymore! Well…ended up dropping off 15 more ! Slightly mortified that I still had another 12 in the cupboard under the sink ( which is now much tidier!)
Bag of plastic bag recycling dropped off at supermarket and about 12 bottles of shampoo/shower gel into the food bank.Have an almost full pack of A4 printer paper and stickers that came out of one of the boxes of mum stuff in garage. Have found a home for that and will drop off next time I’m passing.16 -
Wow.. I can't keep up with this thread. So much decluttering!I bit the bullet and wrapped up some presents for kids parties coming up, which at the same time caused me to tidy up all the wrapping lying around. Lots of decluttering progress as a result:7-9 - paper reused and recycled10 - cardboard box recycled11-18 - packaging repurposed as gift wrap19-22 - large envelopes (donated to DS's school)23-26 - books of stamps (donated to DS's school)Now I just need to work out how to use up my rammed shelf of packaging/gift wrap and reduce it down to one single small box. Somehow I always seem to have more coming in than going out despite not buying any wrapping paper for 5 years

I wish! Not with two young kids... their middle names are "messy". If it doesn't get worse I will be happy. If it improves I'll be over the moon!

I've made a start over the last couple of days, with 19/100 gone!
1-6: sales on Vinted
7-9: 3 pairs of socks way past darning repair yet held onto for some reason thrown away
10: replacement head for an electric toothbrush I've not owned for at least 3 years finally put in the bin
11-19: Items given away on Olio from a kitchen cupboard clear out16 -
Wow you are all doing so well i am having trouble keeping up reading the thread!
Thanks for the cheerleading Mrs SD
Moorviews your hope that your efforts will have a cumulative effect it will ! I dont know whether this analagy helps but someone once told me to image the biggest fattest kitchen roll and every time you do a little thing to the bigger goal to imagine peeling off a little sheet. You WILL see progress you WILL get to the cardboard tube.
I think i will be the tortoise of the group, very slow and steady here:
2. bagged up clothes returned via parcel shop
3.book to car to return to library
4. broken 'fit bit ' recycled (that one was a bit easy company repairing it quoted such an outlandish price its cheaper to replace so they have recycled it and its off my frog list)

Bit down about my progress - so much to do here.
I am keeping a tally of stuff out as I aim for the 30 day challenge - should be at 6 items total out today and I am on 11.
Mr F took bags of stuff to the charity shop today. He checked on the bottle banks - they have been emptied so a visit will be happening. A lot of the empty bottles gathered in the garage are not ours but collected from the street or our SA celebrations - non alcoholic of course.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I'm feeling pleased that I've made a start by taking 7 books to the charity shop and binning some knackered old gardening clogs. I have sorted out some more things to go but I'm not going to count them until they're actually gone.
I'm going for the little and often approach to avoid getting overwhelmed so here's to many more days of getting rid of 8 things!19 -
Ok, made a start
Had to take the glass recycling to the bottle bank, which is next to a clothes recycling bank. Recycled 5 bags and 4 pairs of boots, none of which I have used for the past few years.
Have also got a box of paperwork out in readiness to sort and shred.
I have also been sorting out some financial stuff relating to my late Uncle, which is probably not really decluttering, but kind of feels like it is.Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can
