2023 DECLUTTERING CAMPAIGN Mrs SD

Yesterday I made a start and so far 3 books, 2 tops, 2 old magazines, 4 expired membership cards and cardboard recycling gone - I'm only going to count things once they've actually left the house. I've also decided on the 'hot spots' I want to deal with first, landing, under the kitchen sink and dining room/office (lots of books and paperwork that needs sorting).

Hello all
Setting out my aims for this year, the spare bedroom is the most cluttered so would like to focus on that first. I need to get all my windows replaced and currently the window in that room is inaccessible so that is my motivation to start sorting boxes.
There are also minor building works and handyman type jobs awaiting that cannot really wait anymore.
Aiming for 500 items. This includes paper but will count 10 pieces as one item and only counting paperwork already in the house. New post and junk mail will be dealt with/recycled straight away.
For the past week I've been squirrelling items aside and once it stops raining tomorrow I will be skipping to the charity shop with my first donations. I will post numbers afterwards.
I have to say I am very impressed with all the energy and enthusiasm on this thread - you all keep me going!19 -
Yesterday I managed to declutter three jumpers that didn't spark joy and two entire shelves of books. I have packed them all into an old Ikea bag until I figure out how to carry them all out of the house and to the nearest charity shop.
Not feeling as motivated today but I tackled the electronics drawer and decluttered some old cables.2023 Mortgage-Free Wannabe #19: £11,675.68/£13,000

Mr F has lost his wallet - not an item we wanted to declutter.
I only keep funeral service sheets for a while then bin as my children wouldn't know the departed person.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Can I claim I decluttered my hair? 😂 - I gave myself a good solid 5 inch trim and then a thorough going over with the razor scissors and my head feels light as a feather.
But on a more serious note, I made a small start with:
1. An old hairbrush into the bin.And gathered all my toiletries together with an aim to start sorting through and think about what I need to use, should use, and will never use. Baby steps, work is super busy so I need to wait for a clear weekend to make more of an inroad.

Loving all the decluttering ideas. We had to do a big tidy up for Christmas so quite a bit of decluttering happened then but need to maintain what has been tidied and there are a couple of rooms still awaiting a major declutter and tidy. Definitely need some further decluttering as if I can find homes for more things it will be easier to keep things tidy. Bit mad for the next couple of weeks but will be back to posting on the decluttering soon.

@Suffolksue - one of our family history societies here collects the funeral brochures - I think they are indexing them for future generations, not sure.
Today has been a strange day - drunk roommate really drunk, fell down at the front door, managed to get him back to his room. I don't know how to help him though. Roommate who just started job having trouble getting up because she stayed up way too late last night and having trouble getting her out the door after I moved other roommate. But finally got her out to work - on time I hope.
Pool man is supposed to come today. May have come when I was running errand to store but the roommate who was getting ready for work was supposed to be keeping an eye and on the dog who was inside and didn't notice.
The dog who only comes in when the pool person is coming did her best to help with decluttering - knocked over several piles of paper that had to be straightened, opened a really old popcorn tin which then had to have its contents binned, located a spoon where it shouldn't have been, found several tea bottles stashed behind the living room chair and emptied the wastebasket. Doing better at decluttering than the roommates today.
18 - Was able to finish paying most of the bills
19 - Got the trash containers out before the rain came back
20 - Emptied what the dog started cleaning out into the trash cans
21 - two bags of trash into containers
Have a great day.

Evening all. I'm amazed at how quickly this thread moves!
DH and I took 5 bags of bits and pieces to the charity shop today. I had moved them out of the house into his car last week, but he doesn't always notice what is on the back seat!
I haven't had the energy to start sorting the ancestors yet, but I have solved the mystery of a missing child, so this evening I have ordered copies of her birth and death certificates. That means two more sheets of paper to file, but they will plug a gap in my family history.
I've decided that my key word for this year is "re-evaluate" - so that means I have set myself up to sort through all my possessions again over the next 12 months. At least it won't take me nearly as long as it did in 2022.16 -
Wow, what a superfast thread this has become and what a huge amount of decluttering already done.
Cheerleading is amazing Mrs SD.
My plan today was childcare and putting all the Christmas decorations in the loft. Both done.
We also brought down a suitcase for MiL and a tallboy we had dismantled years ago and hope to use it in the porch for bag storage. The shelves are to go to my craft room.
Tonight was spent trying to get apps downloaded and the covid certificate sorted for parents in law. Everything is a bit last minute as MiL couldn't focus on anything over Christmas - too much going on and FiL does as little as possible and takes no responsibility. They go on their cruise on Friday.
Anyway. Progress has been made and they will hopefully get their certificates downloaded and printed off tomorrow along with all the other paperwork. MiL is going to try on some of my dresses for her trip and we hope to do most of her packing tomorrow as well as FiLs.
