Hello all, been busy decluttering this week as the high winds took off our outhouse roof and consequently the false ceiling collapsed 😱 It was all hands to the pump finding the bits and making them secure so they were not flying about into other peoples gardens. We found the materials to replace the roof but the ceiling will have to wait. We replaced the roof yesterday when the wind calmed down by taking it in turns climbing onto the roof ( highest point about 15ft) That in itself wasn't fun as DH doesn't like heights and I'm ok with them but getting back down is my problem, so I was thinking about having the fire brigade on speed dial, well they can get cats down out of trees 😉 Today we are struggling with movement, DH getting his legs going and me with shoulders and arms which are more aching than stiff, but on the plus side our house now has the lovely aroma of deep heat 😂
When the ceiling collapsed down came several long forgotten items (DH 😠) and as we don't know how long they have been there they are now destined for the next tip trip.
5 large plastic containers of old engine oil 😲
1 lge part full container of ready made cement (hard)
1 lge part full container of tile grout
1 lge part full container of interior wall plaster/cement (hard)
1 lge part full container of wall paint
1 spray bottle of mould remover.
3 large empty boxes, folded and put into the recycling.
2 jars which had dried up paintbrushes in them plus a couple of mouldy rags, eeew!
Old cushion flooring as it was sodden and a torn car mat, no idea why they were there.
Some old broken roofing materials, bits of wood and hardboard.
Several interior door handles, which he kept, are now relocated to his shed along with a bucket which was used for mixing what looks like cement.
Hugs to all the poorly ones, their family members and anyone struggling with daily life. I am now retiring to the TLC carriage for a rest. I hope there are some tea and cakes left ! 🍩🍰☕
Take care all
nan

Regnblue I too have an old cake slice which has a pearl handle and is always kept in it's box, I still use it on family get togethers.
Weenancy I live in SE wales, hope you get to visit this part of Wales.
MrsSD glad DH has got over his health blip, it must have been a very worrying time for both of you.

More digital deletion:7,580-7,850 - emails permanently deleted7,851-7,855 - photos deleted7,856-7,859 - online accounts deleted7,860 - packaging (reused)I now have 13 online accounts left (although just threatened two of them with the ICO). It's a slow slog to the finish now. I changed my email address quite a while ago and the process meant I moved all the emails from the old account to the new. I still had all the old emails in the old address, so I had great fun selecting the whole thing and deleting all emails in the old account. Felt good! Not part of the total as it would be double counting with the deletion in my current email address, but is definitely part of the major digital cleanup I seem to be doing.I have also added a new 20,000 target for the year. No idea if it's achieveable, but since I know the next one will be, I thought it was good to have something to look up to! This year is definitely the year of decluttering for me. Fingers crossed I will have a much simpler life after this massive purge.2025 decluttering: 4,908 🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅🌟2025 use up challenge: 351🥉🥈🥇💎🏆Mini freezer challenge 0/-20Big kitchen declutter challenge 115/1502025 decluttering goals I Use up Challenge: 🥉365 🥈750 🥇1,000 💎2,000 🏆 3,000 👑 8,000 I 🥉12 🥈26 🥇52 💎 100 🏆 250 👑 50016

regnbue said:Hello everyone
I had a historic decluttering moment this week at work. I sorted my pen mountain a couple of years ago and have been gradually using them up. The one I have at work has been there with me a few months. Someone asked to borrow it and a few seconds later said it had run out and was about to put it in the bin. I yelped and managed to rescue it so I could add it to my decluttering total.
It's a very special pen in that it's been in my possession since I got it from the hotel I stayed in on my first trip to New York...in 1998. I sincerely hope that is the oldest item I ever declutter.

@nannywindow and @Floss If my cake slice was as special and in use as much as both of yours I would certainly keep it.
@QueenJess Pens at home last forever. Pens at work don't run out they just disappear.
My numbers for this week are:
uud 1998 New York pen
uud 2 ood food items
tatty pencil case
2 clear bags used as rubbish bags
vitamin pot recycled
101 papers recycled (counted as 10)
34 photos (3)
2 x 10 mins shredding (2)
2 greetings cards without envelopes recycled
bag of soft plastics recycled
15 other bits and bobs
Total is 40 plus 33 mags (woo hoo) recycled = 73.
Amazingly this takes me over my target total for the year of 500. I guess I'll just increase it to 1000 (gulp).
Keep going everybody.

1. Write a daily To Do list - only 3 tasks to include MMiM - do this before I go to bed
2. Commence ‘Operation Frog Tickling’ I have an acronym - I.R.I.S. being Identify, Research, Implement, Sign Off -
3. Implement a new sleep/wake up regime - start going to bed earlier (target before 2:00 a.m.) get up earlier (target by 9:00 a.m.)
4. Deal with ‘Urgent’ daily mail immediately & the rest at the weekend
5. Don’t put it down, put it away
6. If I spot a mini task deal with it immediately e.g. refill olive oil pourer or salt cellar, stitch up a hole in a garment etc
7. Continue to keep kitchen clean & tidy - before going to bed
Wednesday is overcast but bright & cold. I was up & dressed before 11:00 & DH was up about 15 minutes later. He will be taking 2 or 3 short walks today as his call from the doctor is between 14:00 & 18:00 😔 Today has started off well as wheelie bin has been emptied & now has a new bag 🙂 My intention was to go into Lewisham however tmi coming up I need to be close to ‘facilities’ 😬 So instead I popped out intending to go to corner shop & buy a packet of ciggies & pop letters into postbox. Caught the bus which fortuitously was on diversion due to a burst pipe on its usual route & went straight to As*a. Posted my letters & bought my ciggies at a cheaper price. Then because I was feeling brave I walked home past the docks🤞I was rewarded by seeing swans, mallards, coots, seagulls & Canada Geese 😊 DH also went out for his 1st walk, 4,000+ steps & now patiently waiting for his call (14:18) Meanwhile my MMiM today was 23 minutes of dealing with paperwork including some shredding & recycling 🙂
GrannyKate, so pleased to hear that your sister has plenty of support 🙂 & even more pleased that she is starting to feel better 😊 Doggydaycare does sound fun for the owners as well as the dogs 😉 Ouch to having to order & pay for new glasses 😣 Whatever happened to the good old days when you left a deposit & paid the balance on receipt & fitting of said glasses 😔 Shame about missing out on today’s walk but I see you are making good use of your time 👏
Nice to see you donna73 👋 Not surprised that you can’t keep up with the reading as we are still competing with the bullet train 😅 Excellent decluttering 👏 plus you have reached another milestone - over halfway to your target 👏 so one Gold Star ⭐️ coming your way 🙂 Also well done on inspiring the rest of your family to do some decluttering 🎉
Great decluttering 2Scratters 👏 I had never heard of Jelly Drops so googled. What a brilliant idea 😊 & thank you for sharing such really useful information 👏 Sending get better soon wishes to your DH & a few more hugs for you 🙂
What a great post wort 👏 Full of useful decluttering tips & a timely reminder that decluttering should always come before storage 🙂 Well deserving of a medal 🏅
GrannyKate, what a beautiful love story & a marvellous honeymoon 😊 Good luck on your wander round your house 🍀
Great work dealing with baby frogs ~FlowerPot~👏 Everything crossed that the new home tutor meets with your daughter’s approval 🤞Yippee to DS1 cooking tea 🥳
Dfw38, so pleased that DS’s birthday went well 🙂 Snuggles with a 2 year old is one of life’s great joys 😊 Your comment “Came down this morning and I don't know if it is just that my tolerance has adapted but the house looks worse than ever!” shows that you have reached a really good stage on your Decluttering Journey 👏 Although it is a bit disconcerting initially, it does mean that you will definitely reach the happy goal of ‘Maintenance Decluttering’ 🥳
Due to Dfw38’s comment about ‘tolerance has adapted’, I finally admitted that the large coffee table that DSis uses was a tip & was annoying me immensely😖 So I broke off from cheerleading, cleared the table, dusted & polished then tackled the mess 😉 I took a few clear plastic wallets from my mini stash & now English & French bank statements are separated & there is a wallet for recent medical correspondence. Finally stacked magazines & newspapers in a neat pile. The only decluttering was a magazine & 0.5” of bank statement envelopes to recycling & yes I am counting them 🤣
820 - 821 Magazine & 0.5” of used envelopes - recycled
822 - Uu pen binned
The day just got happier 😊 DH has had his phone chat with the doctor (16:20 - 16:40) she approved of all the actions he is now taking 😮💨 However, DH got the impression that the most important thing is that he is taking his medication properly - an hour before eating or 2 hours after eating (he had become rather complacent & had relaxed his timings 😔) To be doubly safe the doctor is arranging for DH to collect a heart monitor to wear for 24 hours & then check that there aren’t any new underlying issues 🤞The relief is palpable 😊 So thank you again for all the helpful advice 👏😊 DSis is feeling a bit grotty again so is having a long, relaxing soak 🛁
Back to cheerleading
Nice to see you regnbue 👋 That is an “historic decluttering moment” & thank you for sharing 👏 I imagine you got a strange look from your colleague 😂 Excellent work decluttering so many magazines 👏 Looking forward to seeing your updated numbers as there is probably a medal & a gold star waiting for you 😉
Wow QueenJess that is impressive 🤩 That 💎 award is getting closer 🙂
Florianatwobob, great news that, although your DBro is still in hospital, he is improving 😊 Ouch to the broken floorboard, no wonder you weren’t happy 😖 Excellent decluttering of large items 👏 Any chance of a picture of your ‘swish’ cloakroom 😉 What a great word “bimbling” brought a smile to my face 🙂
Florenceem, sorry to hear that your usual SA cook has succumbed to Covid ☹️ Hopefully the stand-in wasn’t too stressed 🤞Excellent decluttering & now well ahead of your monthly target 👏
Crikey nannywindow - no roof & a ceiling collapse in your outhouse 😣 Excellent work by you & DH replacing the roof 👏 not something DH & I would fancy tackling - although I suppose we could have sent DSis up the ladder 🤣 Apologies 😉 I am so impressed that I am awarding you each a medal 🏅🏅
Although reading on, I am sorely tempted to take DH’s medal back 😉 but I won’t 🙂 only because that is an enormous amount of decluttering & should make putting up a new ceiling less fraught & less dangerous 🤞Hopefully the deep heat will work its magic 🤞& like you I love the smell 🙂 Funnily enough the cake slice I kept has a handle that looks like pearl 😉 Thank you for your kind thoughts re DH 😊
You really are motoring QueenJess 🤩 Excellent digital decluttering yet again 👏 You are an inspiration to us all 😊 Re pens, I have 2 Sensa pens - lovely to handle 😊 & I am in the process of using up biros, although I think I need to revisit my stash & donate a few more to the CS 😉
Floss, your cake slice sounds like a thing of beauty 😊 Any chance of a picture 🙏
regnbue, I did smile at your ‘Pen Theory’, so true 🙂 Excellent numbers & I have made a note of your new target 🙂 Now to your awards - reaching 50/50 magazines = a medal 🏅& breaking through 500 = a Gold Star ⭐️ Well done 🥳
Just about to make dinner so will post this. Although I will mention that DH has done his 2nd walk so has completed Day 15 of his challenge 👏 P.S. It is raining ☹️
