Chase Account - Pending Payment

Hi all,
I wonder if someone can offer me some advice.
I stayed at a Holiday Inn recently, and due to some confusion with regards an account booking, I had to provide my card details for 2 out of the 4 nights booked whilst I asked the company I work for to sort it out. Holiday Inn put a pre-authorisation on my [Chase] account for these 2 nights.
The confusion was rectified before I checked out, and the full amount for the 4 nights was settled by account. This has been confirmed by my company and Holiday Inn.
However, the pre-authorisation is still showing as pending on my account (9 days later), and Holiday Inn have advised that they need the full card number to be able to release the payment. Due to the way Chase work, they have two different card numbers. One is for online purchases etc., and you can see the full number on the app. The second is for chip and pin, and you can only see the last four numbers. After speaking with Chase, they have said that they do not have the full 16 numbers available to give out.
I seem to be stuck between a rock and a hard place here, and I am guessing I need to wait for the pending payment to just time out, unless someone can suggest something different?

Not much you can do, other than wait until the hold comes off your account. This can take up to a month.
Lesson learnt for the future: never use a debit card in hotels or with hire car firms. Use a credit card (which, of course, you pay off in full every month).0 -
The problem needs to be resolved with Holiday Inn, they are the ones who have raised the charge and they need to release it.
It will time out eventually but pending hotel (and car hire) charges can often lurk for up to a month.
If Holiday Inn are being less than useful to you would your employer have a bit more clout? Get it escalated.0 -
Holiday Inn don't seem to be refusing to release the charge. They just need the 16 digit card number in order to do so and Chase's unique security feature makes that an impossible task 🤷♂️0

I had the same thing happen. It took literally 1 month until it disappeared - holding the cash until then.0

If your mobile phone has NFC, there are card reader apps that can read and display the 16 digit card number from a numberless Chase card.
This was discussed in the main Chase thread:

Thanks everyone for your advice/response. I will try the NFC app, but if not, I am resigned to waiting another 3 weeks by looks of it.0

You could always contact Chase. Explain the situation to them & they should be able to free up the available funds. Now this does not cancel the authorisation & it can still debit. Which they should warn you about.
But at least it is not tying up your funds.Life in the slow lane0 -
Just want to add, the NFC app suggestion worked - though I needed to use an android phone to be able to find a suitable app (not sure if that was just me not finding an app on my iphone or an iOS limitation)0

I found out the physical card PAN and expiry date as a chinese takeaway gave me the merchant receipt as my receipt which has everything on full show. Apparently you can get it by using it on Transport for London (e.g. tube) then clicking on the transaction when it appears in your Chase account. This is so you can link the card to your TfL account for journey history purposes....though the app/NFC route looks easier!Chase seem to have a longer authorisation hold period than most; typically with my other providers these will drop off after a week.1

Lesson learnt for the future: never use a debit card in hotels or with hire car firms. Use a credit card (which, of course, you pay off in full every month). What the reception/check out should have done is to cancel the pre-auth when the customer was still there, swiping the actual card.So the lesson on this experience is to always ensure you get the pre auth removed when leaving a property.
however I do second the use of a CC for hotels and similar (some actually demand it and won’t accept a Debit Card).0
