Cream the butter and sugar, add the flour and mix well. Add enough egg to make stiff paste. Knead well and roll out to 1/4" thick. Cut your shapes and bake in a moderate oven until pale brown. I make a hole with a skewer in the shapes before baking for hanging on the tree.
You can also add some vanilla essence or lemon rind/ a teaspoon of ground ginger or chocolate power for different flavours.
