  • Thanks, called
  • Thanks, called insurance company to check no problem with leaving it airport parking for a week. They said it depends on airport terms and conditions which are.

  • Called them
  • Don't know if this helps but when I was in an RTA a few years back and the tow truck eventually turned up after 5 hours (grrr), I managed to persuade the driver to drop me off at the nearest services which was about 3-4 miles away.  Then I got a taxi from there to a hotel in the local town as the hotels at the services were fully booked up.

We have used APH (and their predecessor) at Manchester for over 30 years with no problems. Use a reputable company rather than try to do it on the cheap and you will not have a problem.

It seems to me you're overthinking this to some extent.  People leave their cars in car-parks all the time - whether at the airport, the train station, shopping centres or just the local high street.

But with reference to your earlier comment

trying to decide wether to take a taxi to the airport or drive or if driving better not to use the motorway in case of a breakdown as more chance to still make the flight if broken down on a street than if on a motorway.

Since you're contemplating a taxi or going via town rather than the motorway - this to me implies that you're not too far from the airport?  If so, have you researched the cost of a taxi versus the costs of car parking?  You may well find that there's not a huge difference - in which case, a taxi would save you worrying about parking, and also save you worrying about the reliability of your own car.
And book the taxi for such a time that you arrive a good couple of hours (or even more, if you're worried) prior to check-in.  That'll mean you've got ample time to play with if the taxi is delayed by traffic, bad weather, breaks down and you need to hop into another one, whatever.

  • I agree with Scrooge.

You're not going on holiday. You're making an important trip to see a sick relative. Remove all this stress and book a taxi. It's unlikely that it will, but if it breaks down the taxi company will send out another or you can call another taxi. This would be far quicker to deal with than a broken down car.

This is a confusing thread with what seems to be far too much over-thinking things that are all run of the mill.

Quite agree. Any way shouldn’t worry, OP will likely be hit by lightening before he gets to the airport.
Question - what if that strikes him a) whilst parked on the motorway b) whilst in a taxi. Does it affect his flight?

I am not sure what you hope to see from looking at the terms and conditions for the parking or how it affects the car insurance.

Do you ever go to a Supermarket?  Here is a parking board from one near me with all the terms and conditions in small print:

Do you stop and phone the insurance company every time you park?
Does anyone ever read these signs?

I really think, given your concerns about the car breaking down (which may or may not be well-founded) and the concerns about parking, an alternative form of transport would be better for you for this journey.  Given the strikes at present, that really does mean a taxi.  How much more than parking and petrol will that cost you?  Is the peace-of-mind worth that much expense?

I wonder how many people a year park a car at airport parking?
I wonder how many people a year notify their car insurance in advance that they are using airport parking?
