So there was a 6 months supplier's/manufacturer's warranty on the brand new turbo that the original garage had fitted as a replacement, but it failed after 7 months?  That might be the end of the line then.

Why did she go to a different garage when the replacement brand new turbo failed?  She probably ought to have gone back to the garage that fitted it originally - especially if they're now saying they'd have taken it back.  (Which I'd take with a large pinch of salt - but she should have gone back to them, or at least got an OK from them to go to a second garage).

Remind me again - when the turbo originally failed and was replaced, presumably the RAC warranty didn't cover it?  (You said in the first post that there was no need to use the RAC warranty.  Is that what the garage told her?)
I believe they went back to the turbo fitter who couldn't fit them in and said go somewhere else with your RAC warranty.  However - and I think this is the major point - at that point in time nobody knew the problem was the turbo.

When the RAC warranty garage diagnosed the problem as the turbo, that was the point to go back to the original supplier and get them to handle it under warranty, and I am not sure this happened. If they had it refurbished without telling the turbo supplier the turbo was at fault, they would have invalidated the warranty.

    Yes you’ve got it.

The original garage who fitted the new turbo was told it was the turbo again but they refused to do it because it had been taken to another garage (Rac approved) & on their advice to do so. No one knew it was the turbo that’s why thy saying it would be coveted warranty wise with a RAC garage( depending diagnosis).

They won’t accept any reports from the diagnostics other than their own findings

so any advice where to go from here.

    Thanks.

I'm no car expert but I'd have thought that 10k was unacceptable for a brand new turbo.  Not of satisfactory quality/not fit for purpose.

When your daughter had the brand new turbo fitted originally you say it wasn't done under warranty.  Did the dealer tell her it came with a separate warranty to the original RAC one?  If he didn't say anything did your daughter ask about a warranty on the brand new turbo?

Presumably RAC are saying either that the new turbo should have its own warranty or that it does have its own warranty, therefore not covered by their warranty.

As I say I know nothing about cars really, but I'd expect any new part to come with a warranty and I'd expect a turbo to last longer than 10k miles.

    See what others think
The durability of the new turbo will depend, in part, as to whether the part was a genuine Garrett from Korea or an Ali Express type Chinese pattern part.  The latter will be a third of the price but seriously lacking in quality.
