The attitude of the BHF doesn't surprise me in the least. When my neighbour died her son was trying to clear the property and contacted BHF. They came round and said they would take the dining table (not the chairs), and the 3 piece suite. He wasn't happy but let them get on with it while he carried on doing other things in the house. They shouted upstairs to say they were leaving, and when he came down later he discovered the settee still there. He called BHF who told him they didn't want the settee, just the chairs. So flaming picky, without even the decency to be honest with him.
Far too many people today only seem to want virtually brand new items and aren't prepared to pay for it. There is a FB group for items for sale or wanted in our area, and the demands I've seen from people wanting items is ridiculous.
I'm in the same position with a mahogany pedestal table. Hoping to sell I was told they have no demand at all so it's the local hospice shop or we have Engage which takes furniture for people on benefits and others.
The only normal people you know are the
ones you don’t know very well
Have you tried Gumtree? The size and frankly the design is the problem. A plainer design with flat front might would be more desirable to prospective future owners.
Have you tried to see if there’s any free-stuff Facebook groups for your local area? I’ve managed to donate lots of stuff that way. Even unfashionable stuff! I’d love a unit like that to up cycle but time and space constraints restrict my ambition:(
Look for upcyclers. I follow in instagram account rescue_revive_repeat_ that feature rescues of furniture exactly like the OP describes.

Defo your local free Facebook page, or if you have local charities that help with people moving into accommodation who have nothing - I dunno but those escaping abusive relationships, those who homes have been destroyed , coming out of care, refugees?
We have Lowland Rescue shops near us, they always have good quality second hand furniture and seem not to turn anything down as long as its in good condition
The trouble is that the biggest item is that display cabinet, and the average homeless person won’t have room for it. So, it’s probably best for someone up cycling, as Silvercar suggested. But, it’s a big project to take on.
I am offering it for nothing on FB, now, but there have been no takers. Perhaps the idea of putting a price on it, to make it look more attractive, was a bit too subtle!
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
Try Olio, nextdoor and Freegle. All apps. I’m not that far from you and was trying to give away a sofa in good condition, eventually went on one of those apps.
