I've just re-read the OP and initially I had misread it. The sign is on the other owner's own house, the side wall of it..  Based on that, IMHO, OP needs to put a sign of their own up.

No, if this is a public highway and the other owner has put up a sign which is misleading people then the street naming and numbering authority should be telling the other owner to get their sign amended or repositioned so it doesn't cause confusion.

As per my first post on the thread.

There is no need for the OP to go to the expense of putting their own sign up, unless the circumstances are more complicated than described or the council refuses to act. It is bad advice (especially on a moneysaving forum) to suggest otherwise.

A large piece of card and tape over it should solve any problems
    Hi

The sign the OP is referring to is on the other person's property. I intially misread the post as have some others.

OP could counter the sign with their own but if this was my property, I'd report them to the council.

    Thanks

Why not simply tell the neighbours it’s causing problems and ask them to move it somewhere more sensible?
This, absolutely.  He'll  probably say he had no idea it was causing a problem and of course he'll re-site it.

As one who has wasted plenty of time looking for peoples home address ( long roads that only have house names I'm thinking about you :-) )   It's very thoughtful of people with doors that appear to be in different streets to put a little sign up.  I quite often see house numbers with the street name on them where things are not obvious.  This aids the delivery folk and also stops us banging on the wrong doors.
If your neighbours sign is really confusing things Im sure they cold move or change it if it is pointed out to them.

Hi, I'm another vote for just telling the council. Let them deal with it. If you don't want to ask the neighbour about it, then don't.

It's the council's responsibility to put up street signs and to remove those that aren't official.

There are quite a few new properties going up around where I live though, and there is much confusion as the street signs haven't gone up - there's nothing on google maps as yet - and some folk are understandably getting frustrated. However, in your case, there's an official sign and now an unofficial one. It needs removing. Council is the starting point.

Hope you have managed to sort it, though. Your neighbours are probably just not thinking straight, it happens a lot. I'm sure they don't mean to cause such disruption - but they do need telling.
