I've put a couple of my tomato plants outside, just to see what happens to them. I was getting a bit short of space in the lean-to greenhouse so it helps there. I've also moved a couple of chilli-or-pepper plants to the other greenhouse which has the sun all day, to see how they go. I wonder how long it'll be before I forget to water them for a couple of days and it finishes them off.

In a greenhouse in Godalming. Our peas and mange tout are finished so we’ve planted some more, new potatoes all munched and courgettes coming out of our ears 🤣🤣

This weather has been good for my plants.

Lots of tomatoes now, still green but they will, hopefully, ripen.  Tomatoes are one of my favourite things to eat  :).  I’ve got raspberries, golden raspberries, strawberries ready to eat.  The blackcurrants are just turning black, they will be turned into a sauce (or if you want to be posh, a coulis) for pannacotta.  I have flowers on my blackberries and the loganberries are thriving in a massive storage crate.

If I have a glut of green tomatoes I have a good recipe for green tomato chutney.

I've started watering them more, after someone suggested that saturating them can be a good thing. Certainly on Saturday, when I was out for the day, they were very wilted by the time I got home but seem to have got better now. But then someone else tells me I can do as much harm by overwatering as underwatering. Despite the rain, I still have to water the ones that are outside, by the look of it. They have plenty of flowers, and about five of those have turned into actual tomatoes.

As long as there is drainage you can't over-water.

Underwatering produces blossom end rot. Irregular watering gives you split skins
  • I’ve had a few green tomatoes on each plant & plenty of flowers but it feels like they’ve stalled growing/flowering/tomatoing for a week or so now. I’ve been watering consistently & the pots are well drained.

The plum tomatoes are coming on & looking good. My experiment with an Aldi bought Gardeners Delight plant & my own seed grown one is interesting. The self grown one is a lot more bushy & the growing tomatoes are a deep green. The Aldi plant has small & sparse leaves & very pale looking tomatoes.

Suspect the cooler weather has slowed things up. Mine would have been at the roof of the greenhouse if they’d kept growing at the rate they were in the second half of June.

Just started removing some lower leaves on mine and giving them regular feed to boost the crop. Looking good so far.
