RCI Bank Customer Service

Anyone else had problems with RCI customer service? It's non-existent, they don't respond to email, FB Messenger, twitter and they don't have a # that can be called from abroad. Other customer report calling the 0345 # but not getting through to speak with anyone.
RCI say unprecedented demand has caused a surge in demand.
MSE what is your advice after recommending this bank?

I don't have any experience with RCI CS. Just to mention, though, that - despite popular belief to the contrary - MSE doesn't recommend any banks - they merely list some of the best interest rates.

Haven't had any trouble with online, opened a new account with them a couple of weeks ago. haven't had a need for customer services though.
  • Mum locked herself out. It takes nearly an hour for them to answer the phone and they still can't sort. I have had no problems with my own account but have had no need to contact them.

There are numerous threads about many providers having similar problems. ( Virgin, Kent Reliance etc )There is a lot of switching accounts happening as interest rates have risen, and understaffed service centres are swamped.
  • Have a read of recent posts on TrustPilot regarding RCI. In short their customer service is non-existent.

    1. They don't answer phone calls
    2. They don't respond or reply to any email.
    3. The head of savings states to contact the bank using Facebook Messenger for contact. This is just a diversionary tactic, they don't respond on that means either.

Why would anyone want to trust their money with RCI Bank?

Because by and large things just work. You open and fund an account, it matures, pays you the interest rate offered and you collect your money. This applies not only to RCI but all online banks offering these type of fixed rate accounts, as long as they come with FSCS protection then the rates offered are all that really matter as no one needs to make contact with anyone for any reason. Things just work.

There will always be those for whom things don't work as intended and that's unfortunate, but these will be a tiny, but vocal, minority who usually take to Trustpilot to vent their frustration (whether justified or not)

They've been having a lot of problems of late, after making the best buy tables.

Last post on here has a comment from a senior manager...

Anyone with cause to contact RCI will know that they've been impossible to contact, by phone, by email, or by internal message for some time.

The reason is made clear by their Head of Savings, Tafari Smith, in a boilerplate reply on Trustpilot to the many complaints there, saying that they have made a conscious decision to concentrate on opening as many accounts as possible rather than answer phones or emails. They just aren’t answering any communication it seems.

In addition to the high number of new accounts, they’re likely getting a lot of calls as a result of the errors they're making.

For example, where interest is paid monthly, RCI show the wrong AER for interest in the account. Instead of stating the 1 year AER as being 4.60%, it gives the AER figure as being 4.51%, which should have been the agreed monthly applied rate figure.

They’ve made the same mistake for other monthly rates, and likely a lot of people haven’t even noticed. I couldn’t find the correct AER in the account anywhere. I emailed and messaged them about it 2 or 3 weeks ago and they as yet haven’t  replied or made any attempt at correction.

In all, they don't seem to be the most competent of outfits out there. Even the posting of a public reply by a senior manager, saying they've decided not to prioritise the calls of customers with problems, seems pretty dumb.
