RCI Bank Customer Service

  • Hi All
Also having trouble with RCi bank.
I appreciate the comment above that MSE does not actually recommend any bank, but they did it put high on their list of interest rates, and, like many others I was attracted to that.
Anyway, opened an account and deposited a small sum in order to 'test the waters'. Given what I know now, I would be inclined to remove this money and put it somewhere else, but as of now, I can't even do that.
Problem is authenticating my linked bank account.
First time I tried the website filled in the box where I am supposed to fill in a code, with my account number.
Tried deleting that and filling in my own code. Didn't work.
Requested another code, but when I tried to enter this a message came up saying 'sorry, couldn't authenticate
your account. This even before I had entered the code.
Yet another call to c/s, another hour of my life wasted, resulted in the bank removing my linked account details and re-entering them, and yet another code.
When I tried this I found that the page for authenticating  my account had disappeared altogether. Call yet again to c/s the agent told me that, from her screen, my account had been authenticated.
Does not explain why I got an e-mail this morning telling me I couldn't  transact on my account until it had been authenticated.
Currently thinking to take my money somewhere else, but I can't do that until my account has been authenticated, which is in some doubt.
I would imagine a lot of people would be inclined to put their money somewhere else.
Anyone else in the same trap?

If it's getting interest I'd be inclined to just leave to there

That you were actually able to speak to someone, at least sounds like bit of an improvement in their CS.

What transaction were you trying to make? Have you asked them to stay on the line while you test it and are sure the problem is resolved?

  • Still awaiting a response to my email regarding incorrect AER as well. Pretty poor CS and would not put any money with them again.

  • May I join the growing list of members totally dissatisfied with RCI customer service.  Spent wasted hours on the phone and two unanswered emails to the help desk.  Perhaps Mr Lewis could suggest how we can make progress, perhaps using his national exposure to shame RCI into action.

Problem is that there are regular threads on the forum complaining about the same issue with many savings providers, not just RCI.
  • Hi all, thanks

At this moment it's not the interest, but trying to authenticate my linked account.
One agent has told me that linking my account is not that important, another has said that this process is to check that the linked account is valid.
During the process of trying to link the account, the page on the website disappeared completely. Another agent told me, from her screen, that my account had already been linked, and the page disappearing was a clue to this.
Couple of days later I got an e-mail reminding me I had to link my account.
It seems that even when you manage to get through, even the agents are not clear on what the situation is.
I guess there are other savings banks with the same issue, but RCi seem more hopeless than most.

If you're prepared to wait you will eventually get through. So far called them 4 times, and each took over an hour to get an answer. Luckily I don't pay for the calls, and I have a speaker on my phone so I can get on with more important things while I'm waiting.
The 'elevator' music they play while on hold gets a little jarring at times, but ho hum.
My first interest should be applied on the fifth. Not sure whether this will be automatically transferred to my current account or whether I have to do this manually. If it's done automatically then they are sending my money to an account they don't know is valid.
If I have to do it manually then that will be a transaction, so should prove whether my account is linked or not.
    We'll see.
