Price for a basic oil change

It's that time of the year, oil change time. I'm starting to get some quotes and so far I'm in the £130's for literally oil and filter in the SW on a Nissan Note 1.5D. I know inflation has pushing things up but does this still seem a lot?

Yes, that's a lot. About half that for my usual garage (in Edinburgh).

£130 is about what I would expect for an interim service on a car which has a 2 year main service cycle. I would expect an oil change only to be around the £75 mark at the moment.

So it really depends on what you are looking for. On a fairly new vehicle I would expect the interim service and in which case it is in the ball park. If you are looking to cut the basic to the very basic and only do an oil change then what you have found is expensive. As an Example (and many here will get on their soap box) Halfords do an oil change for around the £75 mark as an example.

The oil filter on a Note diesel is a pig of a job, I'd want £50 just to change it :)
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Now you know why I'd rather pay to have it done!

Oil change is easy but filter can be harder to access and undo.  I recently paid £30 for oil & filter for my focus from gsf.  You shouldn't be charged more than 30 mins labour.  I change the filter every second oil change

  • Worked out cheaper travelling the 50 odd miles to Birmingham and get what I need done there. Oil change and cambelt was £510ish locally vs £360ish there. The difference more than covers the extra fuel!
  • Had my A5 done today by an independent.  Oil £58, filter £13, flush £13. Total £148 inc vat.
  • Halfords did a family members Seat Leon oil and filter change for £79.99 (after motoring club £5 discount and £10 discount voucher from moneysupermarket rewards).

No disrespect to your family but I wouldn't risk Halfords, Kwikfit etc to even service a skip
