In response to the above I have to say that many have not grasped the issue.

If the government is giving us £66/mth then there should be a credit to the account (Similar to our DD). There then should be a debit (Refund) of £66 to account for a payment to our bank. Which we have received. The net result is that ALL of our DD goes to pay for our usage. This is not the case with the above bill and EDF have not identified the Government credit to our account.

I have raised the issue with EDF which they are investigating. It may take another month during which time we may receive another bill. It will be interesting to see what this says.
In response to your suggestion that we are not grasping the issue - we are.  Just do a quick search here for the tens of other threads with people saying "I haven't had my £400" or "I don't understand the government grant" or "why is my bill wrong about the government money".
See this thread, for example. with another EDF customer:

no, don’t look where it says total charges. Look at where the actual charges appear eg 100 kWh x 34p = £34.00.
Add the electricity charges, the gas charges and the standing charge altogether, + the Vat & what do you get?
Ignore the bit at the bottom where it says total charges, that will include your refund. Do the charges you’ve added together total £66 more than where it says total charges
    and then the OP replies:

You are absolutely right!! Thank you.
What a complicated way of doing things!!
That's how EDF are handling the £66 and £67 payments.

  • I too was totally confused by EDF's bill and I have just had an explanation from one of their support staff.
On pages 2 & 3 of your bill, you get the detail for your electricity and gas usage. Following this, you get a subtotal of the usage that should normally be the sum of your electricity and gas usage but you will find that it is reduced by the government payment (2 x £66) and the VAT is calculated on this lower value.  This lower consumption value (including VAT) is carried to the summary on page 1 as your usage but the Government grant that was taken off when calculation the VAT is then added back onto your consumption.
It does appear at first sight that EDF is adding the Government grant to your bill. I wish they could make this more clear.

sure but its understandable why they dont. this thing is only ever going to be short term and it will take time and money to redesign there billing system. they just have fitted it in wherever they could.

EDF bill me once every 6 months, my last bill was July prior to any payments. How do I get onto monthly billing - the website / online account is useless!!

The only way that's (almost) guaranteed to work while keeping DD prices is to switch to Direct Debit Whole Amount (Monthly):

    @Mr.Generous

or if in general you are unhappy with your current supplier (website and communication) you could switch to someone who bills monthly. unless you are on a fix then standard variable prices are basically the same so customer service is really one of the only reasons to switch right now.

octopus is recommended by a lot of people and i think you can switch if you phone them. octopus are also doing bonuses for cutting use if yo have a smart meter but you would have to be with them for 10 weeks i think before you are eligible.

we are with ovo and ovo now offer switching online again (some people haven't liked there service recently but we have never had a problem).

I've just switched to whole monthly DD. I did it through online chat, you need to type in 'I want to speak to an advisor' a few times,  in reply to the bot's questions,  but once that's done the whole thing only took about 10 minutes.

I switched, painful process - I'm actually in credit now rather than in the red they estimated. I read the meters (not smart) every couple of months in summer and monthly in winter. I submitted online readings 2 days before I swapped to monthly billing.  During the swap process I was asked for and provided readings for both gas and electric.

The swap to monthly was made using estimated readings guessed at by EDF, they added just over 100m2 of gas to our usage and a substantial cost of electricity. I rang again this morning to ask why, they checked the whatsapp conversation and agreed I'd provided readings and they inexplicably hadn't used them. The advisor was unable to offer any explanation why. They had suggested a DD payment of £750 ish for mid December at thisd point.

No way. With the old estimate (too high) we were £150 ish in credit, with acurate reads we are £350 ish in credit. Every time I had logged on to my account to submit readings it showed the previous read and date - I always glance at it to make sure I'm in the right ball park. My account now shows last customer reading of meter to be July 2022 - the others have gone, and the advisor said theyv'e recieved no readings from me since then - until the whatsapp.

Is this just to try and push me to smart meters or are the energy advisors on some sort of performance pay scheme for keeping customers DD's as high as possible??

Absolutely dreadful company to deal with - I wish I wasn't on a fixed price deal!!
