How could I protect my purchase?

Why? I'm not sure Martin Lewis would advise that.pinkshoes said:As you owe nearly £30k in tuition fees, then why not get a second hand sofa and then pay £2000 off your loan???
If the sofa shop won't accept cards then I wouldn't touch them with a barge pole!
I'd perhaps go with a different local store. https://coastroadfurniture.co.uk/collections perhaps?? (I have no idea who this company are, they just look a little more reliable and have excellent reviews on Facebook!)0 -
He'd probably advise not splurging £2k+ on a sofa though when there are plenty of alternatives. Especially not from somewhere which doesn't seem to understand consumer rights or accept normal methods of payment.DanDare999 said:

I agree - a key way to protect a purchase of any size if not to buy from someone that there are any doubts about.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

My point is that £2350 is a ridiculous amount of money to spend on a sofa, particularly from a shop that refuses to accept cards!Unistudent17 said:Hello pinkshoes
The following was mentioned in my other post that you are interested in:
"Arguably, since the student loan repayments are based on income (and not the underlying amount owed or the interest rate), the money can be better used for things like house deposit savings and any other expenditure in that stage of your life."
What do you think?
Personally I would look on FB marketplace, and select a second hand sofa, then hire a van (& driver perhaps) to collect it. I'd then put the rest into savings to save for a house. I paid my student loan off last year as the loan interest rates were far higher than the interest I was getting on my savings. You'll need to check the interest rates to work out if it is worthwhile or not.
SO many people sell really nice second hand sofas online, so see what you can find! It's a sofa - they get jumped on, stuff spilt on them, slept and dribbled on. Don't go coughing up £2350 for one when you can get amazing second hand ones for just £100 to £300!!Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)2 -

According to your previous you're new in a job and we're entering/in recession yet you've £2k+ to blow on a 2nd hand/ex-display sofa from a dodgy outlet with only a mobile number
I am lost...
Is it good idea to pay back University Tuition Fees ? — MoneySavingExpert Forum

Just remember that pay.pal do have cover if item is not as described but they do not enforce a retailer to pay return costs. So yes you could win an SNAD case, but would have to pay to have the sofa uplifted and returned.
