Private plate transfer

I think I'll wait until I sell it back to the original dealer (as they have offered the most), and then see if they can sort it out for me.
The private price doesn't have any real value for anyone else. I'm happy to cover some costs for them to sort out - if not, then will just sell it as is.

It's a very simple process to do online and the DVLA will issue an age related number and a retention certificate. Get new plates made up and swap over.
If you let the dealer do it "because it's easier" you have more chance of delays and cop ups.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -

You must have your V778 and new log book before you scrap or sell your vehicle - otherwise you’ll lose the right to use the private number.

Will still ask the dealer just in case it can be sorted out when selling, nothing lost - the front licence plate has a stone chip, so they will probably be replacing that plate anyway. As I said above, if they say no then I'll just leave it.0 -
Just do the plate transfer online in advance of the sale. I did it 2 weeks before my new car was being delivered. If done online during office hours the swap over / allocation of a new reg number is instant. Then just get a set of plates made up (I used an Amazon seller and received within 2 days). It really is a painless process now,1

As Tonygold suggests get it sorted now, dead easy to do online. The only problem you have is having the plates made up and informing your insurance company of the plate change.
(I keep the old plates and just pop them back on, you don't have that luxury)1 -

The Fat Controller has given the correct info. I've just done mine online - you'll get a new reg assigned and an authorisation letter emailed to take to the shop get new plates made up, as you might not get the V5 for a few weeks due to DVLA delays. It's not that difficult, honestly -you'll be fine.
