When One to One changed to T-Mobile, I'm sure the provider name changed on my phone screen. Did the same not happened with EE?

I've used that EE page to unlock three old mobiles last month, two of them were unlocked in a few minutes and one was done via email as they had to contact the phone manufacturer on my behalf.

If you have entered the imei number accurately it maybe that they don't have a full list of pre-merger locks (ee was formed by merger of orange and t mobile).
I understand they have a responsibility to unlock any device originally locked to their network, so even if they can't there may be some goodwill due to you, so give them a call or email.
AFAIK a phone locked to orange should accept an ee sim, and may work with 1pmobile or rwg.

EE (and most virtuals) use the former One2One/T-Mobile UK network code 234-30
This means that many older devices will see EE as another network i.e not 234-33
