As above, that won't happen without a court order. Think of the above in an extreme example such as an abusive ex with their ex partners Garmin serial number etc.....

Argos spent most of last week doubling down and providing no proof that the watch was in the box when they handed it over, refusing to check any CCTV or tell my partner anything about any investigation they claimed to do.While my partner likely won’t feel like it’s safe to touch the money until the 45 days have passed where Argos can dispute it, it’s a relief that, with records of their conversations with Argos’ terrible customer service, the bank is siding with my partner.Appreciate people’s replies on this.
Your post has made me extra aware now.
I worry too much and yesterday we went to a couple of local supermarkets and Savers and I'm always saying to Mrs Diy "make sure you get the receipt" because a few months back we were holding something in our had, well I was that we bought from another store and Mrs Diy went to the till to pay and the cashier asked if we wanted to pay for the item I was holding - made me feel small but we were confident as we had the receipt. (Slightly different to your case op, but I hope it helps others that may read)
Good luck0
