Why are Octopus giving so little warning about saving sessions ?
I missed this mornings session - didn't tick the box -  because I only received an email at 20 to 7 last night  !
Could it be that they are not really interested in "saving energy" - and dont really want everyone switching off - just in IMAGE ?
When a real saving session is required, which these are the tests for, there may not be a lot of notice given.

I am registered as a vulnerable customer - so hope to get some warning !

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

It couldn't be much less notice than this one as there is some human decision making to be done on the part of the power companies during the offer/accept phase between the grid and the power companies. unless they are all on call 24/7. Could they offer one first thing in a morning for a 5pm activiation? just about if all the ducks were in a row I think. Have to keep time for the in-day adjustment period and the buffer hour. Bound to be less uptake due to people not seeing it in time.
I don’t see any particular reason that you’d need to be notified before the start of the adjustment period. Obviously this wouldn’t be very helpful for any of us hoping to ‘adjust’ our usage. But really the calculation would work more as originally intended.

I do believe the intention is to shift the usage between the designated "quieter" period 4 hours before the expected heavy load period up to an hour before that period of energy shifting starts.

You then get rewarded for the work you had to do.

Coal power plants put on standby for tomorrow, and anticipated requirement notice this morning was a good sign it was going to be another real test tomorrow, but they're late at issuing the actual requirement, or rescinding it...

Ok perhaps someone can work this out for me

Baseline average over the last 10 days between 9-10 was 2.1kwh.

    Today's usage between 5-8am was 14kwh

During the 9-10am slot we used 0.7kwh

The payment from loop is £2.50/kwh
What is your normal usage between 5 and 8am, as that is used as part of the in day adjustment?
Average of 4kwh over the past 10 days
    By my rough maths, £10 - £12 .

Working out (assuming I remembered the details):
In day adjustment for 5-8am is extra 10kWh (14 - 4kWh), so 3.3kWh extra per hour.
    Baseline for 9-10 would be 5.4kWh (normal 2.1kWh + 3.3kWh)
    Saving 4.7kWh (5.4 - 0.7kWh)
    Decent guesstimate

Here we go. Our first live event. Wonder if this will be worth more than £2.25 per kWh saved?

Octopus had a wide range of bids and prices accepted - some up to double the usual test amount, so it should be more than 1800 octopoints per kWh for this one...
