True but at least they will know who to and who not to mess with as many would not have the guts to say that.Jacob_Jones said:diystarter7 said:0 -
Anonymously all day long in the OP's situation IE they are new, the victim is reluctant and the old hands dont want to do anything. Reporting will get the ball moving anf hopefully clam the manager down and the manager will let slip they have been pulled up.Jacob_Jones said:
Confidentially, but not anonymously.TELLIT01 said:There should be a way to whistleblow anonymously for the reasons the OP has raised.

Do you mean some people would not be brave enough to ask for a witness to be present?
In reference to your post where you say the manger would not have the backbone to repeat what they said when the OP was aloneJacob_Jones said:

It's not all about you, you know. The OP should acquaint themselves as much as possible with the previous history of most of the posters in this thread before taking any action based on their advice that could jeopardise their employment.Jacob_Jones said:
Is that a criticism of my advice?Ath_Wat said:
OP, please don't act on the advice you have received so far without reading other posts by the people seeking to advise you.
If so, why not just state your opinion?
The OP may have one of those jobs that you don't pick up in five minutes due to someone at the jobcentre knowing the previous holder was just sent to prison, and as it's virtually impossible, some say, to get a job without knowing a person in the company who gives it to you, they should probably tread carefully.6 -
As it is your first day, and you have just done the training, you have the perfect intro - 'I've just been doing this training and it seemed rather close to an incident that happened in the office while I was there...' There might even be potential, if the reported manager does raise it with you or through gossip grapevine, to say something about even wondering if it was role play set up to test you and the training!

It's worked at my place and other places and the reason I know, the victims were approached to confirm/deny the allegations against xxx and often the victims though reluctant to report do open ip.Jacob_Jones said:
Pointless doing that.diystarter7 said:

The senior managers won't act. How could they, without being challenged?
Also, the reporting is confidential. If that confidentiality is broken, then the OP potentially has grounds for their own claim against the employer.1 -

Yes - anonymous. Even the Gov.uk site states that whistleblowing can be done anonymously, but in that situation it is important to provide all possible information about the event.

Getting back to basics, is the OP in a union? That would be another useful source of advice and support.Signature removed for peace of mind3

Thank you all for your replies - i appreciate the discussion and can see the different points of view.
i am not in an union.I am very surprised about the comments about boosting my appraisal etc… I had not considered that angle. I dont want to work in a place where people are not respected. There are also other things that are a bit off in that clinic and so i will talk to my training school and see if i can get a new placement.
i am unlikely to report it but i will feel guilty about it. And if it does happen again, i will stand up and intervene. I think the manager might appreciate being stopped from getting into another difficult situation.Thank you all1 -

The highlighted bit, IMO you will feel like that. Therefore, may I suggest what I said in the thread, and report it anonymously?
I also said the manger may feel it's you but without you confessing, they will only be guesses.
When I reported a manager once and at the start I did not have the guts as I was like you news and new to the job, I reported covertly and the manager a couple of days later banged on about in the office that some people are cowards/etc. She did this indirectly but aimed at her being reported and I knew she had been called in because the victim told someone else they'd been called in and asked how she felt/etc in the office and if anyone was giving her cause for concern/etc. I heard about this a few years afterward when her good friend became my good fried and we talked about another manager and bullying.
So reporting the bully as going to work is hard enough and being picked on and the victim appearing not to care too much is not the full picture. When I was being bullied and other opened up, we all felt the same, sick on sunday night at the thought of going into work, sick getting ready to go in and praying the bully was off on leave in meetings etc. However, as time goes on bullies find new ways and they unfairly scrutinise your work or get others to do it making you feel worthless and spreading lies about you.
Take care and I'm sure you are going to be a credit to the service.
(N matter how prepared one feels for a bully and their cronies but they will catch you off guard)
