Another week nearly gone and we're still on the frugal trail. This week I have £5.83 left from my cash budget despite spending £24.26 in Mr As and £20 on petrol. I'm not sure how I managed it but I'm not complaining. I've got a Billy Envelope so my £5.83 is going in tomorrow. I'm having a NSD tomorrow. Family coming for a meal, bought a Smartprice ham, boiled it, made lentil soup with the stock and will make an apple crumble for dessert.
My Billy Envelope contents will be used for guilt-free socialising so I'm hoping to add more to it next Sunday. I'm still amazed that I'm sticking to my cash budget. Every penny's a prisoner at the moment.

lilac_lady I love that quote ' Every penny's a prisoner at the moment'. Not heard that before. Thankyou :T

I was just going to say exactly that! :D I'm going to hold all of mine prisoner and only let them out if the ransom is high enough.

DH took a call from an unfavourite friend and I thought my ears were deceiving me when I heard him invite said friend for afternoon tea tomorrow

I gave him a stern look and then delved into my freezer to see what was available to feed them.
I have cheese scones (made with post Christmas leftover Stilton) fruit scones, Carrot cake (made with free carrots from lovely friend).
I then made a Marmalade Tray bake with Christmas present Marmalade.

    No sweat :D

Just a couple of hours to pass in ultra boring company.
  • oooh, what's Marmalade tray bake Janey?

  • Whitewing, I felt sad when I read about your friend's husband. You sound like a lovely friend who will be there for her. Some people find it so hard to support the recently bereaved, even though they dearly want to. You were so right when you reminded us to make sure we appreciated our loved ones. I never go to bed on an argument (either with any of the kids or my man) and I always say goodbye to each one and tell them how much I love them before they go out/work/school etc.

 Congrats on the job Keren.

You are so right about how prices vary for the same items between stores. Many years ago I worked for Mr S and it was common for prices to be more for some goods in affluent areas!

Today I made cauliflower (rather manky, reduced to 20p in village shop), lentil and cumin soup with home-made bread for lunch. Tonight I used my BOGOF beef strips from Co-op to make toad-in-the-hole with a port sauce (port was pressie at Christmas). Who says frugalites can't live like kings?

I found I have £34.00 in Quidco and I've only actually BOUGHT 1 item through the site, the rest is from signing up to other sites. Have several cash amounts and loads of points on various survey sites, so could be on target for my free 2008 Christmas (aiming for £1,000).

    Love to all xxx

why oh why did i not discover before that lidl GIVES away food that is going out of date sooner????

I only found out yesterday when i overheard the couple in front of me ask the cashier 'is that free stuff there again?'....

got a pack of lamb chops and 2 packs of chicken tikka bites! I was very pleased.

my bf looked a bit suspicious when i told him we were having 'free meat and mashed turnip thats going a bit off' for tea...

now when i walk home from work, im not gonna walk diagonally across the lidl carpark like a fool, im gonna walk round the edge of the window on the hunt for more free meat... like a cavewomen. ish. ;)

    Shhh! Sneaked on here.

MIL has arrived - she's great. She seems very smiley and young at heart. She apparently has a great leather jacket that DS thinks makes her look like a cool rock chick! I think it's going to be all right. Anyway, can't be any worse than the last one, lol.

    Must dash now..............

Way to go, JumbleBee! Pity my nearest Lidl is about an hour's drive from here! :o Hmm... Free Frugaling = Freeganism without bin-raiding! :T

Had my chicken curry but it looks like it might be chicken curry tomorrow again as DS went out for the night and there was far too much for just 2 of us. As usual, I made double quantity of rice as I had none left in the freezer, so it's alreay there. Whilst the curry was heating, I roast some chipped potatoes, chopped the bag of onions for freezing and have set the plug timer (my eBid bargain buy) on the slow cooker for some lentil soup. I should have done the measurements for my FFC but haven't yet - too scared after having consumed so much homebaking this week!! However, Billy Can is staring at me and my sticky note with the figures written on it is peering out over the top so I am going to bite the bullet, be brave and face the music. :o

Hope all goes well with the MIL, Whitewing. Get her chatting about frugal lifestyles and home cooking, she'll LOVE you then! :D
