CA only problem with leaving food outside might be the cats. One of ours can smell cheese a mile away.

Could you not put the cheese in a plastic bag and hang it from the windows upstairs? Therefore the cats couldn't reach the food at that height from the outside.

I think our landlord might have something to say about that :rotfl:

Haven't you seen a cat shinning up a tree? The reward of a kilo of cheese would give our cat amazing climbing abilities :rotfl:

For 1/2 a kilo, I think our cats would sprout wings!

We put beer cans in wet socks and hang them when we're camping .... it's very scientific - something ot do with heat transfer blah blah blah - all I know is it keeps the beer really cold. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: at the thought of your house festooned with socks full of cheese.

I've had a very unfrugal couple of days - been out with dgs3 and treated him as he's such a sweetie - tomorrow will be no better - half term treat to tutenkhamun at 02 (we'll take a packed lunch though - honest)
I'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 2008
  • Morning all - should be a NSD today. I've been a bit concerned about the figures running away with me, but I've done a quick tot up and if I carry on at the same rate (and I'm hoping not to!) my annual spend will be around £4,600, which, whilst over my original target of £3,800, isn't that horrific - surely? I've also got another 10 months to pull back that projected £800 overspend, so maybe I won't be all spent up by about July afterall!!

Now I've got a part time job to relieve some of the pressure of AQA being my only income, I might cut myself a bit of slack and request a new annual total of £4,000?? Is that allowed, oh, Nyk, the great one??!!

Morning everyone. I've woke up this morning very positive. My kitchen looks great with the new curtains so I'm now planning my next project. My dd needs a new bed at the moment as hers is a small ikea bed with no proper mattress.A couple of the slats have broken and she's starting to wake early because of being uncomfy.I had been searching this weekend for a cheap bed (checked out freecycle ect) but I've now decided she can use the guest bed under my ds bed for now and I will do her bedroom as a birthday pressent for her birthday in July. I know she loves her friends bed so this is going to be her main pressie.I'm setting myself a challenge between now and then to save for the bed, matress and accessories. I need about £200 to buy what I'd like.I can suggest presents to friends and family to go with the room.I will need to save £50 per month. If this is to come out of this budget then I need to cut down on my "other" spending. My budget as it stands at present is £138.26 for essential bills £150 for groceries and £174.51 for all "other" things eg clothes, travel.I think it's managable target. It will make me look at what I'm spending here anyway as this is where most of my money is frittered.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I will enter month to date figures as I have noticed that I have there are occasions that I have forgotten to enter the amount so when I check Money and check those with the bank (I know I am bit anal), all the figures are there and appear to be correct BUT if I paid by cheque or card it may take a day or two longer to show!

I did spend more on food/groceries this past week (hardly surprising.)So a total of 25.34, month to date, (gulp) remember it was less than a five last week, but I did buy lots of toilet roll, on offer, enough to keep me going for a while (can I say that ??)

I hope to get the figures under 50 this month. Still a lot in freezer, I wont go with out basic staples, I enjoy a healthy diet these days! If I gave up the fortnightly bottle of vino ......BUT life must have some pleasures:o

Too right Mah_Jong, it's all about balance!
Janey, I love your posts - the one about reflecting on all the things to be grateful for was lovely, especially as your hubby was snoring and you still love him ;)
What a great idea about beer in wet socks for camping stefejb - I will definitely be doing that when I next go!(and I'm drinking again) :T
Whitewing, I'm so happy for you the MiL is great, I was having heart palpitations at the thought of her coming to stay for months without you even having met her!:D
Mollymop, your project for your daughter sounds fab, thanks for sharing your positivity!
Jumblebee, that's amaxing news about Lidl handing out food for free! :T They get a big plus point from me, makes so much more sense than throwing it in the bin  Can you tell us any more about when they do this, is it only meat etc please? My nearest Lidl is about 20 mins away but definitely worth a try! I'll be on the phone to my mum to tell her too as she has one nearer.
Our big walk today has had to be toned down as not feeling so great  but we're off to a nearby lake for a wander and maybe a cream tea :DHave a wonderful day everyone, I'll be back to post my weekly update later.
BTW, the cats/cheese thing had me in stitches, especially the idea of them sprouting wings to get at it :rotfl:One of my cats has a dairy allergy but LOVES cheese so he'd be doing exactly the same!

    Isn't life great?:D xx
