  • Just got my first gas bill since swapping to British Gas (£60 cashback with Quidco ;) )and opened it with some trepidation as this is my first winter working from home all day and they would have 'guessed' at the monthly amount to charge me when I first joined.

I was pleasantly surprised - it was only £27 which I don't think is bad for the winter quarter. They aren't going to change my DD amount, which is fine by me.

Just keep my fingers crossed that when the electric bill arrives from them (tomorrow I guess) it is just as soft a landing on the door mat.

    LollopyBear,

If you can wear a bikini, that's impressive. If you have a few that fit, you are rich beyond measure.

(I don't think I've ever worn a bikini in my life, even when I wasn't overweight).

    Just a thought, LollopyBear,

Remind me that you are actually female...if you were male I'd take my previous post back, lol!

  • LMAO Whitewing - yes, I am female. I don't think wearing a bikini in the next few months would be a pleasant sight, I need time to get back to looking alright on the beach after winter! They are fairly modest ones as well, no thongs!

    Re knicker allowance.

How did that many pairs get into the drawer, don't remember buying any for ages and surely I have never bought that many. Do they breed in there??:rotfl:

This is a fab thread. We are on here because we are either keeping to £4k or benefitting from the approach. If you disagree with us, that is of course your perrogative but we are quite happy as we are ta.

    Hi everyone,

I'm carrying on with the challenge and doing quite well I think! This weekend I bought a chicken from my local butcher - it was £3.99 and FREE RANGE, and not only did it do us for a lovely roast, today I am having sandwiches from it, and there is still enough to make either a risotto or stir-fry for tea. But the best bit is that now I try my hardest not to waste anything, I made chicken stock from it last night, which is now proudly sat in the freezer ready to make soup later in the week when I get time!

Hope everyone else is doing well. (I did have a little slip this morning when my train was delayed and I was bored at the station so I had a coffee... but I did drink it reading my free paper!)

Sorry to hear about your cold, Keren, but GOOD GOLLY GOSH!!!   Were you in my living room when the maltesers bit was shown??? Those were practically my exact words!! :rotfl: :rotfl: I don't think it is the cold you have, I think it's a stress induced upper respiratory reaction to the shock of the wasted choc! :D

I think its because im worried - i cant believe i forgot to budget for knickers when i joined this challenge ;)

wish I had a horlicks sample!

ps what can be done with a bag of dried out looking parsnips? just got them the other day and i am shocked they look so bleughhhh already.

If i soak them in water before cooking them would that make them a bit better?

And I thought I was bad losing sleep over CharliesAngel's budget, as it was so tiny compared to mine, and the plight of the binned maltesers! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

PS: Sorry about the meter-watching, Sashacat, but it's compulsory until you've adjusted to mentally calculating costs of running all your electrical appliances. I switched off one single storage heater and my night time units have dropped by almost 10 with immediate effect. I might actually manage to stay within my £1000 annual budget - which is included in my challenge.

Just because the bag had split! I know, I couldn't believe it. And they just put it right back! I would have had that, and most of the other stuff that was in the carrier bags she got. Shows just how much waste that we produce, right?

It sure did. Made me feel proud that I checked out the reduced section (normally battered boxes and tins) first, and then look for the yellow seriously reduced goods. In the past i saw a glittery scarf in a hedge and i swiped it to make wings for a fairy i had made, as well as a costume for her. Other week I had the fluff from mate's washing machine to use in a box project with college, and a few months back, knocked on a neighbours door to ask if they were binning a candle stand tree that was in their yard, they where so I rescued it.
Dont think the freegan realised that the job he was doing had benefits. Mates fella works on the bins, and he has brought usable household stuff home before.
